Historia
In The Field of Blood, Joanne B. Freeman recovers the long-lost story of physical violence on the floor of the US Congress. Drawing on an extraordinary range of sources, she shows that the Capitol was rife with conflict in the decades before the Civil War. Legislative sessions were often punctuated by mortal threats, canings, flipped desks, and all-out slugfests. When debate broke down, congressmen drew pistols and waved Bowie knives. One representative even killed another in a duel. Many were beaten and bullied in an attempt to intimidate them into compliance, particularly on the issue of slavery.

Absorbing history; delightful narration
Revisado: 04-27-19
An absorbing examination of physical violence on the halls of Congress in the years leading up to the Civil War—a hidden history revealed through the diaries of one man. The author’s narration makes for thoroughly enjoyable listening. She has a pleasant voice and story-telling cadence that adds emphasis where needed without ever becoming overly dramatic. I kept thinking how much I would enjoy attending a class she taught. And what a pleasure to listen to an audiobook where every word and name is pronounced correctly!

Historia
Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are the self-styled prince and princess of America. Their swift, gilded rise to extraordinary power in Donald Trump’s White House is unprecedented, unconstitutional, and dangerous. In Kushner, Inc., investigative journalist Vicky Ward digs beneath the myth the couple has created that depicts themselves as the voices of reason in an otherwise crazy presidency and reveals that Jared and Ivanka are not just the president’s chief enablers, they are, like him, disdainful of rules, of laws, and of ethics.

Read it; don't listen to it
Revisado: 03-20-19
I'm enjoying the content of this book, but the narration is one of the worst I have heard from Audible. Ms Hardingham has a girlish style that I would describe as "flouncy", and is decidedly over-dramatic. Frequently, her phrasing and pauses indicate that she doesn't really understand the meaning of what she is reading. Also, she inexcusably mispronounces many names of well-known people who are frequently in the news. Did no one listen to her narration before releasing it? I'm adding her to the list of narrators that I will avoid at all cost.

Historia
Who is Donald J. Trump? To truly understand America’s 45th president, argues Vanity Fair journalist Emily Jane Fox, you must know his children, whose own stories provide the key to unlocking what makes him tick. Born Trump is Fox’s dishy, deeply reported, and richly detailed look at Trump’s five children (and equally powerful son-in-law, Jared Kushner), exploring their lives, their roles in the campaign and administration, and their dramatic and often fraught relationships with their father and with one another.

Bottom of the barrel narration
Revisado: 08-14-18
Huge disappointment. What a mistake to allow the author to perform the narration! Her millennial monotone made this one of the most excruciatingly dull readings I have experienced on Audible. Every sentence carried the exact same intonation. As for the content, there's no original reporting here. Every incident is ripped from the pages of People magazine.

Historia
The Man Without a Face is the chilling account of how a low-level, small-minded KGB operative ascended to the Russian presidency and, in an astonishingly short time, destroyed years of progress, making his country once more a threat to her own people and to the world.

Worst narrator ever
Revisado: 09-14-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator--without a doubt one of the worst Audible narrators I have listened to. The Boris & Natasha accent was truly cringeworthy at best, and thoroughly enraging when Russian names were ruthlessly mispronounced.
Would you be willing to try another one of Justine Eyre’s performances?
Never. Never again. Ever.

How did the narrator detract from the book?
Generally I like to hear the author read, but Mr. Bordewich has a habit of starting a sentence loudly and trailing off to a half-whisper at the end. It makes it difficult to find a comfortable volume, and very annoying to listen to. Despite an otherwise engaging narrative, I couldn't make it past the first chapter. Maybe I'll try the Kindle version.

Historia
The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Cleopatra, the number one national best seller, unpacks the mystery of the Salem Witch Trials. It began in 1692, over an exceptionally raw Massachusetts winter, when a minister's daughter began to scream and convulse. It ended less than a year later, but not before 19 men and women had been hanged and an elderly man crushed to death. The panic spread quickly, involving the most educated men and prominent politicians in the colony. Neighbors accused neighbors, parents and children accused each other.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Eliza Foss's reading makes me feel like I'm at a kindergarten story hour. I'm 3 hours in and just hating it.
