Historia
Distant Realms collects 13 works of speculative fiction by Chris Lester, creator of the award-winning Metamor City story universe. These stories cross worlds as diverse and broad as imagination itself, from the far future to ancient woods where forbidden gods still hold sway. Here are tales of science fiction, fantasy, and cosmic horror, of heroism and rebellion, of loves lost and found…but above all, tales of humanity and hope.

great collection of stories
Revisado: 06-30-20
In this collection of stories, Chris Lester demonstrates his versatility as an author. The wide range of genres represented here showcases the skill of this talented author. Whether a story is snarky, creepy, or steamy, you know it will also be creative and well-written. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to these stories and know they will get many more listens in the future. I highly recommend this collection. If you are new to the author, this is a great introduction to his talent, as all of the stories are stand-alone. The introduction includes a summary of the inspiration and history of each story, which I found added depth to the experience. All around excellent work!

Historia
In this collection of short stories from the world of Panamindorah, Silveo meets Basil, Silas meets Percy, Anaroo meets Gwain, Gus meets Silas, and Gerard prepares to meet Thessalyn. Dakar and Theseus are tiny children, caught up in the machinations of others; Glossy makes impossibly difficult decisions for herself and her child; and Marlie struggles with the ghosts of her past and present. All of them will find their places in the world, often far from where they started. For the moment, however, they are doing everything for the first time.

Fun tales and character backstories
Revisado: 04-24-18
This is a great collection of short stories about a wide variety of characters from The Refugees series and the Cowry Catcher series. The stories were all entertaining in and of themselves, but also gave additional depth to the characters, making them all the more enjoyable. The authors' notes at the end of each story were very helpful in putting all the characters in context of the other stories.
It was obvious that this is a collection of stories instead of a unified whole. The variety of narrators for different stories gave different voices to the characters, making the experience richer in my opinion. The production did vary between stories, with differing amounts of intro/outro music, sound effects, etc. that were a bit jarring for the inconsistency. However, seen as a collection, it did not detract from the overall experience of the text. The stories speak for themselves, and every last one of them was a winner.
If you have read any of Abigail Hilton's other works, this collection is highly recommended. Even if you have not, you can still enjoy these characters and it may serve to hook you into some great epic fantasy.

Historia
When Jessica volunteered as tribute to a sorcerer's court, she knew that sex would be part of her job. However, she did not expect Lord Azrael to “feed” her to his pet incubus on her first day at work. She’s shocked that the incubus - a shape-shifting panther - can take the form of a man. She’s shocked that they have an audience. She’s even more shocked that she likes it. When the show is over, Jessica is sent off to new adventures, but she can’t stop thinking about him.

A wonderful romantic adventure
Revisado: 03-12-18
Would you consider the audio edition of Incubus Caged to be better than the print version?
The performance by Lauren Harris is wonderful and does a great job capturing all the feeling of the book. It is purely a matter of how you prefer to consume your fiction whether you prefer the audiobook or the print version.
Have you listened to any of Lauren Harris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have enjoyed all of Lauren Harris's narration, and this one definitely lives up to her high standards of performance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. This is so engaging, it is hard to stop once you start.
Any additional comments?
This is a very engaging, exciting, sexy, romantic book. It has a great story that draws you in and keeps you interested even between the varied sex scenes. Highly recommended.

Historia
Storm is born into a world of secrets - an island no one visits, names no one will say, and deaths that no one will talk about. The answers are locked in his species' troubled past, guarded by the fierce creasia cats. But when Storm's friends are threatened, he decides that he must act, pitting himself against the creasia to show that they can be resisted and outwitted. To prove his point, he must stay one step ahead of clever hunters, who have more to lose than Storm imagines.

enjoyable epic with amazingly deep characters
Revisado: 01-05-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to most people I know. It is very enjoyable, with something for everyone. The realistic depth of characters is one of the best parts of this book to me. There are very few 2-dimensional characters, and the long timespan of the story allows for a great deal of character growth. This world is obviously incredibly well-developed in the author's mind, which gives it a very rich and natural feel to the reader, however foreign the world actually is.
What other book might you compare Hunters Unlucky to and why?
In some ways this reminds me of the other works Abigail Hilton has written, as far as the character-driven story, and the way characters grow and change, but in other ways it is completely different. The world, the pacing, and the types of action are different in this work, but I can't think of another work to compare it to. To me, it seems unique, but in a great way!
Which character – as performed by Rish Outfield – was your favorite?
Rish Outfield did an AMAZING job narrating this book. His performance makes the audiobook far superior to the written text in my opinion. The diversity of voices he creates is incredible and makes the story flow very well and completely understandable in audio. I may be unoriginal, but I have to say my favorite character in the story was the main character, Storm. There are so many enjoyable characters in this story, though, such as Arcove, Roup, Sonni... the list could go on and on.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, there were parts that made me cry. I got so attached to the characters, it was hard not to identify with the challenges in their lives. There were certainly characters that I mourned, as well as those I cheered when they survived harrowing circumstances. There were definitely some laugh-out-loud moments in this book as well.
Any additional comments?
I really loved this book and highly recommend it.

Historia
The murder of Millroad Catholic Academy's resident genius Aaron Nguyen shuts down student life at the boarding school in rural North Carolina... for about a week. With the resilience of youth, the student body bounces back, and the memory of murder is nothing but a streamer of caution tape fluttering in the breeze. Unfortunately for them, Aaron's spirit has some resilience as well. The school priest's exorcism fails, and before long Aaron is breathing chills down the students' necks and hurling Bunsen burners at nuns.

Great fun--can't wait for more
Revisado: 11-30-14
Where does Exorcising Aaron Nguyen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was definitely in the top third of the books I have listened to--and I have listened to a lot. It was a lot of fun, very engaging. I did not want to stop listening. I really hope there are more books in this series coming soon!
Have you listened to any of Lauren Harris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first original Lauren Harris piece I have listened to, though I have heard her voice before. This was well done, well produced, and very enjoyable. I think she did a very good job with the different voices for different characters, helping keep straight who was talking in the audio format. I also enjoyed hearing the North Carolina accent come out occasionally.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed the book--Lauren Harris has a new fan.

Wonderful Cowry Catcher background stories
Revisado: 11-25-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this collection of stories to anyone who has enjoyed the Cowry Catcher series. It could serve as an introduction to the world, and the author does a good job of filling in what you need to know. However, I think the stories are much more enjoyable if you have an understanding of the world and characters. It makes the in-jokes so much more fun when you know where things go later!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love all the stories in the collection, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Professionals, for the simple fact that it is a full-cast performance. It was a joy to hear Norm Sherman voice Sylvio again--with a wonderful audio quality that made him sound like a younger version of himself that really added to the realism of the story.
What does Abigail Hilton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Part of what is enjoyable about this collection is that it is not just Abigail Hilton reading the stories. Having a full-cast story and Christ Lester reading Gwain's story make this a true performance, which added to my enjoyment immensely. Abbie's reading is clear and well-produced. Having the author read a story always makes me feel like I am getting closer to the story, since I can hear inflections, pacing, etc. that tell me I am hearing the story the way it was intended to be heard.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The climax of Sky Dance makes me cry every time I hear it. It is incredibly moving and beautiful and evokes deep emotions. Wonderfully written!
Any additional comments?
I loved this book for the depth it adds to the experience of the Cowry Catcher series. Highly recommended!
