Historia
Stephanie and Jessica have nothing and everything in common. The two women don’t know each other but are on the same plane heading to California. Stephanie is on a business trip and Jasmine is fleeing an abusive relationship. After a few days, they text their friends the same exact messages about the same man—the messages becoming stranger and more erratic. And then the two women vanish. The texts go silent, the red flags go up, and the panic sets in. When Stephanie and Jasmine are each declared missing and in danger, it begs the questions: Who is Trent McCarthy?

Historia
Jake Powell is racing to get off the island as a powerful hurricane approaches. When he finds his best friend Dallas, the building manager, dead from a blow to the skull, Jake realizes there’s more than the storm to fear. There’s a murderer on the island, maybe even still inside the nearly abandoned building. Dallas had repeatedly run afoul of the wealthy owners of the building by complaining about code violations and the precarious state of the condos. But he’d also once told Jake that every resident had a secret they’d come to Florida to escape. Had one of them killed to conceal their sins?

The most tedious book I've ever read
Revisado: 03-16-25
This book was tedious with long, drawn out dialogue both in the main character's head and in his interactions with others. I skipped 2 1/2 hours and listened to the ending.

Historia
From the acclaimed author of Her Every Fear and The Kind Worth Killing comes a diabolically clever tale of obsession, revenge, and cold-blooded murder - a sly and brilliant guessing game of a novel. Harry Ackerson has always considered his stepmother, Alice, to be sexy and beautiful in an "otherworldly" way. She has always been kind and attentive, if a little aloof in the last few years. Days before his college graduation, Alice calls with shocking news. His father is dead, and the police think it's suicide.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 10-14-24
I typically enjoy this authors storylines about character's childhoods and family dynamics providing context for the people they became. This one was a little more disturbing than most due to the focus on "romantic" involvement of adults with underage minors, central to the plot. If that kind of thing bothers you, probably best to move on to another title.

Historia
Nine strangers receive a list with their names on it in the mail. Nothing else, just a list of names on a single sheet of paper. None of the nine people know or have ever met the others on the list. They dismiss it as junk mail, a fluke—until very, very bad things begin happening to people on the list. First, a well-liked old man is drowned on a beach in the small town of Kennewick, Maine. Then, a father is shot in the back while running through his quiet neighborhood in suburban Massachusetts. A frightening pattern is emerging, but what do these nine people have in common?

Not my favorite
Revisado: 09-08-24
The book is based on a fairly innovative concept, but the execution falls a little short for me. It was difficult for me to follow all the characters and plot lines. However, that could be because 1) I'm not the best with names sometimes and 2) I tend listen to audiobooks while doing multitasking so maybe this book requires a little more concentration than some of his other titles

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

I wanted to like it, but I didn't
Revisado: 06-12-24
With two authors on the title that I respect, I really wanted to like this book. But I didn't. The characters were not developed in any detail and the dialogue was corny and predictable full of overused quips and clichés. I'm no scientist, but the science regarding volcanology in the book appeared credible and well researched. Give it a listen, maybe you will feel differently. But I expected a much richer, more developed story and characters that I did not find here.

In one of the most underestimated - and challenging - positions in the world, the first lady of the United States must be many things: an inspiring leader with a forward-thinking agenda of her own; a savvy politician, skilled at navigating the treacherous rapids of Washington; a wife and mother operating under constant scrutiny; and an able CEO responsible for the smooth operation of countless services and special events at the White House.

Choppy and Robotic
Revisado: 11-30-16
While I enjoyed many of the facts and stories presented in the book, I found the progression of the book to be choppy (switching between the first ladies every other sentence in some cases). I found myself asking "which one is she talking about now?" I also found the narrator to have a robotic voice with very little inflection. Overall, interesting information was presented. I just didn't care for the writing style and narration.
