Good if you push past the start
Revisado: 11-08-18
The first two hours were painfully full of YA tropes that almost made me drop the book. There's a good story here, it's just covered up a bit by teenage bullshit. It was worth pushing through those two hours. One minor gripe: Sanderson doesn't really get how G-force works sometimes. It will mostly make sense and then there'll be something completely wrong once in a while.

This second volume finds Royce and Hadrian on a quest to enlist the southern Nationalists to aid the ever-weakening kingdom of Melengar. I just can't handle the stupid
Revisado: 11-08-18
Three books is as much as I can handle. All of the characters have rocks for brains and couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag. Enemies are often incompetent idiots, which doesn't help the heroes as much as you'd think because they're only a fraction better. The book has some good moments, but they're way too overshadowed by poor writing and stupidity. The whole "thief" premise of Hadrian and Royce that started the series on an interesting note has been abandoned in favor of stock fantasy characters who are as three dimensional as a piece of paper.

An adventurous, romping tale of a young man
Revisado: 11-08-18
As an avid reader of the Traitor Son Cycle, I was expecting a lot going in, and I was not disappointed. A story that manages the balance between fantasy and realism with aplomb.

Historia
Acclaimed author Michael J. Sullivan created instant best sellers with his spellbinding Riyria Revelations series. This first volume introduces Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, two enterprising thieves who end up running for their lives when they’re framed for the death of the king. Trapped in a conspiracy bigger than they can imagine, their only hope is unraveling an ancient mystery - before it’s too late.

it's alright
Revisado: 11-02-18
A cut above the general mediocre fantasy, but only just. Pretty decent read. My main gripes are an inconsistent magical system and "smart" characters shown to be such not by them being smart but by others being stupid.
The second book feels more polished than the first and hopefully that's a continuing trend. So far, it hasn't fallen into the formula rut that ruins decent series and I think I'll keep reading. Not a bad read if you've nothing better, but so far doesn't merit the glowing praise it's received on Audible.

It's ok.
Revisado: 10-16-18
bHaving read the Black Ocean series, this book was a serious letdown. That said, this being Morin's first series I'm not altogether surprised. This book is alright, but I wouldn't recommended to a friend.
The general outline is alright, but dialogue is rather stilted and awkward, and some characters seem to change personality at the drop of a hat. Though some of that is due to Naramore's preformance, as at times he adds a tone that doesn't fit the writing. At times, the book suffers from a case of telling instead of showing.
If you're looking for something to fill your time, this book isn't bad. If you're looking for a good read, I'd suggest skipping this series and going to Morin's Black Ocean, which is a marked improvement in almost every way, including narration.
