Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

An EXCEPTIONAL book from an EXCEPTIONAL WOMAN
Revisado: 04-30-21
I'm struggling to write a review that does justice to the gift this author has given us.
Suffice it to say as I got to understand the character of the author, the finished product of her book is no surprise. It's polished and concise, nothing was over or under-presented and each chapter kept me looking forward to the next. I was excited to continue listening and the lessons imparted by the author are life-changing, indeed. And the reading of the entire book was just perfect. I wouldn't change a thing about Evy Poumpouras' masterpiece.
I finished this book last night, feeling empowered and inspired to become more effective with how I deal with people, more compassionate and insightful. I definitely want to buy this one for my daughter!
I'm most grateful for the experience of having listened to it and will definitely do so again many times. This information is too valuable to not have it ingrained in my life. Evy makes me want to be a better person, an exceptional person like her.

Intriguing but predictable
Revisado: 08-03-20
While I enjoyed the performance, about halfway through I easily figured out whodunnit. That transparency was disappointing since it was an otherwise interesting story and I'm generally not good about predicting endings.

Sincere and completely believable
Revisado: 07-19-20
For the past four years I've said it's clear Donald Trump is a sociopath, suffering from a huge "daddy didn't love me" complex for which this country is paying the price.
Therefore, Mary Trump only confirmed what I already believed to be so and to even further extent than I could have imagined. I would be inclined to feel sorry for Mr. Trump were it not that he's actively destroying this country and hundreds of thousands are dying because of his bottomless ineptitude and inability to defer to others (of whom there are MANY) who know more than he does.
Naysayers will try to label this as "fiction" and a libelous work of art. What would Ms. Trump possibly have to gain? No doubt she'll be sued by her dysfunctional family for breach of the NDA she signed many years ago so she's put a lot at risk to inform the rest of this nation of exactly the person who is in the White House..in case we hadn't noticed.
This is sincerely riveting.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Down an intriguing rabbit hole..
Revisado: 11-07-19
Initially, I downloaded this selection because it was about true crime but as it unfolded, I found the story was much deeper than I'd thought it would be.
Mr. Dommek, Jr., did a great job establishing the life, physical characteristics and complexities of the main character, Teddy Kyle Smith, and I felt I was able to see a movie of him in my mind as each chapter advanced. That movie included being able to "see" the other characters and their lifestyle, their settings, the frigidness of the challenging lifestyle, and the immense and rugged beauty of the Alaskan wilderness (although I'm positive it's much more grand than I can conceive inside my head). More than once I yelled "What the f*ck?!" and found my feelings for Mr. Smith alternated disgust, confusion and compassion.
In the end, the story reached the conclusion I thought was justified but then Mr. Dommek, Jr., added even more credibility by recreating the path of the suspect during a dangerous time of the year. That added even more depth to the story and was an unexpected effort that made this feel it had gone full circle.
But it also left me pondering thoughts about isolation, alcoholism, mental illness, and the awareness of how, once again, the white man's law has been applied to indigenous people's to their possible detriment. How many of us are ignorant to these issues?
I normally don't give a review beyond clicking on how many stars I'd give a story but I felt this one deserved a more thoughtful and introspective review. Mr. Dommek, Jr., is indeed quite the story teller. I was pleased I chose this story this month.

What a pleasure it was to hear the voice of the classy First Lady tell her story.
"Becoming" revealed the ordinary-to-extraordinary evolution of pre-Barack Michelle Robinson, from her humble childhood on Euclid Avenue to one of the most memorable First Ladies this country has ever seen.
I'm grateful Audible had this audiobook available. I listened every opportunity I had and enjoyed her story immensely.
