Historia
Juliet only wanted to see her childhood home one more time–to look at it from the street. She never intended to meet the new owners, let alone talk her way into a position as their new live-in nanny. But it's too late now to tell the truth about who she really is. Six-year-old Kitty has progressive mutism and cannot speak. Nobody knows why she keeps making silent phone calls to the police. Juliet makes it her mission to find out. As Juliet settles into the house, nostalgia for her childhood gives way to uneasiness, as troubling memories surface.

Enjoyed this one because it wasn’t the usual formula for British murder mystery or police procedural . Lots of twists and turns, mind games and heart string tugs to keep anyone who likes psychological thrillers, even a little, enthralled or at least entertained! I was pleasantly surprised, ngl.

Historia
Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

Action! Action! Action! With a dose of Native American mysticism makes for a crazy, endearing adventure-

Liked the further antics of Longmire (and Virgil(?))…. Makes me value my 72 degrees home that much more-Snow and mortal terror and snow and a lil existentialism and snow. Excellent next chapter in Walter’s real/surreal reality…

Historia
One summer day in 1978, a man came home from work to his house in a nice neighborhood in Illinois. He went inside the front door and called out to his wife, but she didn't call back. The man looked around the house and was annoyed that it was so dirty. His wife had said she was going to spend the day cleaning, and it seemed like she had not. But after searching the house, he had not found his wife yet, and so he stared to wonder if she was okay. The only place left to check for her was in the basement, so he opened the door and began walking down the stairs. When he got down there, he would ...

Other than a few (annoying!) technical difficulties, I think these episodes are fully adequate. Though not nearly as entertaining as watching him tell the tales on YouTube.

Fun adventure through the wastelands
Revisado: 01-31-24
Great, rollicking story that never relents. This is the type of Chairlane Harris story I love-memorable characters, rich settings and a plot that drags you along, regardless of potholes, roadkill or a carload of wizards on your tail. Lots of fun.

Weakest ending ever
Revisado: 01-12-24
My reward for hours of emotional investment? Spoiler alert! Summed up in a nonsensical lickety split "they lived happily ever after" ending. Sorry to say, but I felt like the author must have had a deadline she forgot about or simply lost interest in trying to conclude the plot! Don't expect a marvelous ending is all I'm saying.

We’re not alone on the river of life
Revisado: 12-08-23
Loved the rhythm, the ebb & flow, the pace at which the story was unspooled. Character development, including the changes, growth & acceptance were spot on. Somewhat of an “update of Huckleberry Finn”, but with a more mystical feel and the ubiquitous search for Love, God and Home-Good read-you’ll love it❣️

Historia
In the slums of 18th-century France, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is born with one sublime gift - an absolute sense of smell. As a boy, he lives to decipher the odors of Paris and apprentices himself to a prominent perfumer who teaches him the ancient art of mixing precious oils and herbs. But Grenouille's genius is such that he is not satisfied to stop there, and he becomes obsessed with capturing the smells of objects. Then one day, he catches a hint of a scent that will drive him on an ever-more-terrifying quest to create the "ultimate perfume" - the scent of a beautiful young virgin.

Creepy, lovely story
Revisado: 10-04-23
An ex of mine raved about this book (back in the early 90s); I read the synopsis and thought it was probably a weird sexual fantasy (mostly because he also loved Lolita) about virgins and naughty behavior-But, after I finally “read” it for myself, I found this book to be excellent! Yes, there are virgins & a creepy stalker-type situation-but there is so much more! I loved the lengths to which perfumists go (or did back in the day)to extract the very soul of a flower for use in a perfume, soap, etc. The main character is someone you can relate to, but to an extent only. The mind of this man is so alien, yet you can empathize with a lot of his thinking. To an extent. Great read, easy to listen to, interesting settings, beautiful description of Paris & other parts of France in the 1800s. Two thumbs up👍👍!

Outback’s Wild West w/a Twist…or Two
Revisado: 09-24-23
Very interesting story set in small town in “the middle of nowhere”; nice depiction of the social/family culture in a close knit Australian community. Lots of drama, lots of heart. A good mystery plus so much more-One question: why oh why does EVERYONE refer to Pearlie’s kids as The Princess & The King? Is it an Australian/Filipino thing?? Bothered there wasn’t even the slightest explanation-but maybe that was just me!🤔
