Historia
Imagine you could hold a baby hare and bottle-feed it. Imagine that it lived under your roof and lolloped around your bedroom at night, drumming on the duvet cover when it wanted your attention. Imagine that, over two years later, it still ran in from the fields when you called it and slept in your house for hours on end and gave birth to leverets in your study. For political advisor and speechwriter Chloe Dalton, who spent lockdown deep in the English countryside, far away from her usual busy London life, this became her unexpected reality.

Great story, Great listen!
Revisado: 03-17-25
Anyone who has been fortunate enough to connect deeply with animals will thoroughly enjoy this memoir. I’m speaking not only on ‘as a pet’ level but that deeper connectivity that most humans won’t experience in their life. Those unfortunates will have missed such a joyful part of life.
I thank the author for her humaneness, as well as the reader for her talent.

Historia
More than any other presidency, Barack Obama's eight years in the White House were defined by young people - 20-somethings who didn't have much experience in politics (or anything else, for that matter) yet suddenly found themselves in the most high-stakes office building on earth. David Litt was one of those 20-somethings. After graduating from college in 2008, he went straight to the Obama campaign. In 2011 he became one of the youngest White House speechwriters in history.

Perfect mix of humor and history
Revisado: 05-25-24
I was not aware of Mr. Litt or his WH role. However, what peaked my interest is my fondness of books penned by various WH speech writers. This one made me laugh out loud more than any other. IMO, Litt’s decision to voice his own narrative was the turning point because only he could add the perfect reflection points to elicit such laughs. (That, and the fact that his voice sounds like that of a comedian.)
I questioned whether someone close to but still far enough away from the West Wing had sufficient up close and personal experiences to ‘put you in the moment’ to make this interesting. Fortunately, this question was answered just a few chapters in (oops, I ended a sentence in a preposition—inside joke). In fact, his distance and fight for more intimacy in the West Wing put a more human face on the story while still educating you on the highs, lows, frustrations and other human emotions that other more antiseptic histories have often lacked.
Litt’s storytelling had me laughing at the beginning, through the middle, and still yet as he walked out of the WH gates for the final time. I also appreciated his honest and ever-changing views of the 44th President along the way…from star-struck lamb to
confirmation, once again, that no matter how powerful the person, humans are…well…human, complete with their own set of highs, lows, frustrations and all other emotions.
On a very side note, and just because I’ve done editing in my life, there were a couple of missed deletions of second takes—betting no one else will notice.

Historia
An inspiring, informative, and practical guide to navigating end-of-life issues, by a groundbreaking expert in the field and the New York Times best-selling author of Knocking on Heaven’s Door. Katy Butler argues that we have lost touch with the “art of dying” as practiced by our ancestors, yet we still hunger for rites of passage and a sense of the sacred, especially in the important life transitions of aging and dying.

A Must-Listen for All, with Consideration for Financial Realities
Revisado: 07-16-23
This audiobook aims to shed light on an often overlooked and deeply personal topic. It provides a comprehensive exploration of various aspects surrounding the end of life, guiding listeners through a range of emotions, considerations, and decisions. While the book tends to cater to those with adequate financial resources, it also offers invaluable insights, recommendations, and templates that are applicable to individuals from all economic backgrounds.
In this poignant and thought-provoking audiobook, the author skillfully addresses the delicate subject matter with compassion and understanding. The listener is invited on a journey of self-reflection and introspection, contemplating mortality and the importance of making informed choices to ensure a dignified and meaningful end of life experience.
One of the book's strengths lies in its ability to capture the complexity and diversity of individuals' circumstances. It provides a comprehensive overview of legal, financial, and healthcare considerations, guiding listeners through the intricacies of advance care planning, estate management, and navigating the healthcare system. The author's expertise shines through as she presents practical recommendations and shares real-life stories that demonstrate the importance of taking control and making informed decisions.
However, it is worth noting that there are sections of the book that tend to focus more on individuals with adequate financial resources. While this may be disappointing for those with limited means, it does not detract from the overall value of the audiobook. The author has made a genuine effort to address this imbalance, providing alternative perspectives and suggestions that accommodate a wider range of economic realities.
Throughout the audiobook, listeners will find a wealth of information, thought-provoking questions, and helpful resources. From exploring the concept of a "good death" to creating personalized end-of-life plans, the book empowers individuals to embrace their agency in shaping their final chapter. It fosters conversations around dying, death, and legacy, encouraging open dialogue among loved ones and healthcare professionals.
Moreover, the author's compassionate tone and sensitive approach make this audiobook accessible and supportive for those grappling with the emotional challenges of facing mortality. By discussing grief, coping mechanisms, and the importance of emotional support, the author ensures that listeners are not only equipped with practical tools but also encouraged to tend to their emotional well-being during this profoundly transformative time.

Historia
Most people know Andrew McCarthy from his movie roles in Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, Weekend at Bernie's, and Less Than Zero, and as a charter member of Hollywood's Brat Pack. That iconic group of ingenues and heartthrobs has come to represent both a genre of film and an era of pop culture. In his memoir, McCarthy focuses his gaze on that singular moment in time. The result is a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction, and masculinity.

Exactly What I Expected
Revisado: 06-04-21
I wish I had time to pen a longer review but I’d I don’t write down my immediate thoughts just after concluding the audio book I know life will inevitably get in the way.
Have always been a fan of McCarthy’s acting. Even amongst the actual‘brat pack stars, my eyes and ears were always drawn to McCarthy, who was the only one of the bunch who seemed to be playing himself in terms of his gestures and how he engaged the camera.
Thank goodness lended his own voice to the narration. I think that made a big difference in how his story landed to the ear and mind. It allowed your mind to visualize his journey.
Great, easy listen with not a hint of embellishment. In fact, it seems somehow that he may have left some things on the proverbial (audio) cutting room floor. Perhaps not. Either way, I highly recommend this autobiography to those who enjoy hearing of one’s life journey, and who dare to think those on the big screen are somehow not as human as ourself.
