Not the best one in the series
Revisado: 04-06-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I'd rather say that I really liked two previous books in the series, thanks to twisted plot, well developed detective line, intriguing relationships and unusual characters. But this one not so much.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I wish it would be more dynamic, less predictable, and the main character... well, I would like to see her acting more like a professional detective with special gift rather than damsel in distress with absolutely erratic behavior.
Really hope that the next book will get back on trail and again will bring us all intrigue and excitement of first two books in the series.
Did Marcella Riordan do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I'm not a native English speaker and I admit that I couldn't appreciate all sorts of pronunciations but I have to say that sometimes Marcella Riordan interpretation of book's characters sounded to me annoying and distracting, especially when she spoke as the main character Detective Sergeant Kathleen Doyle. I didn't really paid it a lot of attention before as the plot of previous books completely captured me, but this time it just added negative emotion to the whole picture.

I would've gave this book 4 stars if not for...
Revisado: 01-14-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would've gave this book 4 stars if not for it main character - annoyingly stubborn, self-centered, obnoxiously obsessed with her pitiful revenge damsel in distress, though she doesn't sees herself that way till the end of this book. I wanted to hit her over the head with something heavy somewhere in the middle of this story and wanted to strangle her to death somewhere through 2/3 of the book only to make a great favor to the Prince of Midnight, myself, other readers and to the whole World in general (pardon my ambitions).
If you’ve listened to books by Laura Kinsale before, how does this one compare?
I didn't and I'm not sure that I want to read or listen other books by Laura Kinsale
Have you listened to any of Nicholas Boulton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first book narrated by Nicholas Boulton and he is absolutely great and perfect. I'm going to browse something else with him as a narrator.
Do you think The Prince of Midnight needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Thanks but no thanks. One is more than enough.

Excellent start for the series.

What did you love best about Raine Falling?
The book is very well balanced for this genre.
Even if there was not too much violence, which is expected in the MC's plot, there is almost all way through enough tension between characters to keep us on our toes.
There are sex scenes but it all happens in right moments and never became annoyingly intrusive. There is enough back ground stories and minor characters to make this book interesting to follow from the beginning to the end.
And of course the narration is above all praise.
Really looking forward for the next instalment in the series.
What other book might you compare Raine Falling to and why?
Reapers MC series, because of the genre, quality of the writing and excellent narration.

Would you consider the audio edition of Etiquette & Espionage to be better than the print version?
I’ve read and listen this delightful book simultaneously, and have to admit that flawless narration and highly artistic performance added to the fascinating by itself story more charm and attractiveness.
Have you listened to any of Moira Quirk’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I didn’t listen any other books narrated by Moira Quirk yet, but going to browse something right away.

Historia
This powerful and breathtaking novel is the story of four cadets who have become bloodbrothers. Together they will encounter the hell of hazing and the rabid, raunchy and dangerously secretive atmosphere of an arrogant and proud military institute. They will experience the violence. The passion. The rage. The friendship. The loyalty. The betrayal. Together, they will brace themselves for the brutal transition to manhood... and one will not survive.

Really great introduction to Pat Conroy's books.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lords of Discipline to be better than the print version?
The book is marvelous, both the audio version and the printed one.I’m not a big fan of military fiction in general and I have to admit that I chose this one because of the narrator Dan John Miller. But when I started to listen and read it simultaneously I couldn’t put it down and finished it in less than 3 days. The narration of this book is just perfect. I can't imagine how it could be better. All characters, male and female alike, sounded perfect, so perfect in fact, that I didn’t just heard, I saw them as they spoke, acted, thought.
What other book might you compare The Lords of Discipline to and why?
I don’t remember when I was so moved and captivated by the novel before. The story itself is not just about military college and growing up of young men. It’s about so much more. It’s about acceptance, choices and beliefs, it’s just about life. The brutal honest of the book will make you laugh, cry, bite your lips, dig your nails into your palms and cringe and blush, and it will make you to think over and to question again and again your own honesty and moral codes and that’s in my point of view is the mark of literature masterpiece. And do you really need to compare real masterpiece to anything else?
Any additional comments?
All in all I was so impressed that I decided to read more of Pat Conroy’s books and chose to buy audio versions and kindle editions of his two other novels – The Water is Wide, again narrated by Dan John Miller and The Prince of Tide (according to critics one of the best works of Mr. Conroy) narrated by Frank Muller.
