What a ride it is!
Revisado: 07-02-14
What made the experience of listening to Ride of the Darkyrie the most enjoyable?
The story picks you up, drops you into Bryn Hill's life and never stops. You don't take a minute to catch your breath and you sure as heck don't pause long enough for the story to get ahead of you!
What did you like best about this story?
Original storyline with great characters who pop off the page. The realism of the story, even through the fictitious telling, grabs hold of the reader. There's a palpable connection between reader/author/characters that you don't want to see end.
What about Hollie Jackson’s performance did you like?
I cannot say enough about Ms Jackson. Her voice enhances the story without making the listener hear only her voice. This is now the 3rd book I've listened to that she's narrated and each time her voice punctuates the emotion without overtaking the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The character relationships ... each connection drawing you in and wanting to immerse yourself in their lives.
Any additional comments?
This is now my 3rd novel by Saranna DeWylde. Each story has been unique with it's own set of characters and each with a different voice. This novel has the intrigue of a "whodunit" along with the romance of a woman finding who she is as a sexual being. The protagonist, Bryn Hill/ The Darkyrie, should be a complete badass ... and she is. But she also has a vulnerability that you can't help but respond to.
Finding her way through her Ascension, her path blocked at so many levels by the people she trusts or eased by people she shouldn't trust ... her story is one of heartache, suffering, breaking through and finally acceptance.
The story carries you along at a breathless pace, giving you just enough time to feel your heart slamming in your chest before dragging you along to the next moment. But there's no feeling of being "rushed" ... the story blossoms, much as Bryn matures, and encourages you to remain through to the end.
You won't regret stepping foot inside the Darkyrie's world ...

Historia
A riotous romp through Olympus with goddesses for the 21st century. When a new goddess moves to Ambrosia Lane, Hera decides she's finally had enough of her philandering husband. She offers herself and the crown of gods to Hades. Hades doesn't want the crown, but he'll take Hera. (Often and twice on Sunday.) He's a heartless bastard - having had Aphrodite rip it out so he'd stop loving Persephone after he set her free. Persephone is scheming to get back to Tartarus with the aid of Thanatos, who trips on his leather trench coat and falls in love with her.

Soapy Intrigue with Gods & Goddesses

Would you try another book from Saranna DeWylde and/or Hollie Jackson?
Absolutely I would buy from this pair again and again ... but perhaps not this genre.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I found it difficult to find a character I could relate to at all. Each character is very well presented, and you already know them all from your mythology in High School. The difference being, in this presentation, they come off as more high school than you'd expect.
Have you listened to any of Hollie Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Ms. Jackson's voice lends itself, once again to the story without overpowering it. Her tone ranges from light to dark, drawing the listener along with the story itself and enhancing the writers subtle nuance. A brilliant performance once again.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
The dramedy and sexmance in this piece is heavy and very abundant. Each character jumps from one scene to the next, as one would expect in a soapy style romance.
Any additional comments?
While I enjoy the story for what it is, I found it simply wasn't my cup of tea. I'd purchased the book because I'm familiar with Ms. DeWylde's other works and wanted to give this one a go.
While the idea is original and the storyline itself is quite comedic in nature, I found it was hard for me to enjoy because I simply don't get into the soap-opera style of storytelling. I was never a fan of the premise as a television show and I couldn't get all the way through this one because of the same style. Hera as a catty, vindictive and long suffering wife, I can buy ... but the almost high school quality of her personality left me flat.
For those who enjoyed the television series or soap opera style romance, this is absolutely the book for you. It's entertaining, to be sure and draws you in but I just couldn't get past it. I'll look forward to her other works, as she is a gifted and brilliant author.

The Quick & The Hot: Ro-medy at it's best
Revisado: 06-24-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The story, while not original, has a very authentic feel to it. Yes, boy meets girl, sex ensues and a romance is born but there's a touching level of insight into this version that exceeds your typical "bed romp".
Who was your favorite character and why?
I'd be hard pressed to pick just ONE favourite character. Each speaks to you in their own voice and has their quirks, flaws & benefits. Hemmie (or Hemlock) is insecure and there's a whisper of where it originates in passing but she's also confident and a little daring, like all of us. Raven is the put-upon little brother trying to make a name for himself but he's also wicked in his own way and almost forces you to like him in spite of his predicament.
What about Hollie Jackson’s performance did you like?
Her voice is smooth, with just the right inflection to convey the emotion of the story without interfering in it. The range of her voice, from the airy and light tones that point out the humour to the heady caramel-like texture of her voice when the "good bits" come up, she lets the reader hear the STORY and not just her voice reading it.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
How To Lose A Familiar In 10 Days: A Romance of Sex, Lust and Gummie Hounds
Any additional comments?
This story had me wrapped from the beginning. This was, surprisingly, my first experience with this author (although I assure you it won't be the last) and I found her point of view to be quite delightful. She's at times heavily sarcastic while still breezing through to the comedic end. Her romance is heavy but it suits well into the storyline and adds to it, as opposed to detracting as sometimes that can happen. The story itself has a breeze of fresh air as a "man in a mess" instead of the "damsel in distress" theme and is a nice, quick pick-me-up. I'd highly recommend this to readers of any comedy/romance authors such as Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series.
