The last 30 minutes completely ruined the book

It started out as an interesting enough story and I got caught up in it. There were a few cringe worthy moments with obvious errors, but on the whole not bad. And then it nose dives into a genocidal political statement about the state of the planet. In the afterword the author specifically says it wasn’t meant as a political statement, then rambles on for several minutes about his agenda. I care deeply about the planet, do a lot of charity work, and donate a lot to charity. But when I read a science fiction thriller I expect entertainment, not someone’s agenda being pushed on me.

Laugh out loud

I thought it was really funny and a took clever shots at industries we love to hate: insurance and telemarketing. A lot of people seem to think this book was a political commentary. Sure, it takes some shots at millenials. I've heard millenials take shots at their own generation. Heck, every generation takes shots at every other generation. Read it, laugh, and move on.

This was the best book I ever listened to because I love books about space and I love books about ships and about planets.I just love this book and I found out about it from my dad.

Petulant AI

I lasted for about 1.5 hours before shutting off the book and moving on. I’ve loved Scott Meyer’s other books, but I really could not get into the story. A whiny petulant AI with too much power, a cliche tyrannical boss, groveling underlings, and a mistreated young boy. This book is being returned.

I ended up really liking this story and the strange timeline that things follow. I won't spoil anything, but I laughed out loud when the antagonists were described: The faceless men behind the government. That part was meant of somewhat of a satire. Overall I think it's a good story. It has some fun elements and I enjoyed the ride.

I really enjoyed The Martian, so I was hopeful with this book. In my opinion it fell short. First, do not listen with children around. Rather than fleshing out the characters and giving them more depth, the author chose to pad the book with a plethora of expletives. If all of the swearing were removed the book would have been a full two hours shorter. I understand life and death situations might invoke some strong language, but it seriously felt like padding and was ridiculous. Second, the characters felt more like pieces on a game board. The author moved them into play just when needed, and everyone always went with whatever crazy idea Jazz proposed. I didn't feel they had their own personalities. The science was pretty cool and I felt like that was explained well. As a geek at heart I enjoyed that more than the actual story.

I loved this series. Brandon Sanderson has quickly become one of my favorite authors. The stories he weaves are amazing.

I made it through about the first 20 minutes. in which time there were about 40 f bombs. Total rubbish. There is no need for such language.
