A truly original true crime podcast.

I started listening at the start of the pandemic when my husband and I contracted COVID early on. We were so sick for 4 weeks and I needed silent to do while I was laid up. I remember seeing the title and it drew me in. Then, in the first episode I listened to, I heard them say "remember - if you're going through Hell, just keep going" and I thought "this is a podcast for me".

Johanna and Annie clearly do their homework. One the best things about the podcast, and what sets it apart from many others, is that there are so many different stories and topics from around the world throughout history that they share. You know a podcast is great when you then read even more on the subject afterwards. I've learned a ton! And both Johanna and Annie are great hosts. Their friendship is so genuine and it really comes through.

Do yourself a solid - binge and then follow Fresh Hell.

Absolutely infuriating that they are passing this off as a true crime podcast. Episode 1 is the only episode that isn’t almost complete nonsense. What’s worse - the nonsense is that the Devil made him do it. Really?! If they didn’t advertise this as true crime, it would be fine but it’s a huge disappointment if you were hoping for actual insights. Skip it.

I've been plagued by anxiety for decades. You'd never know it if you met me. I'm a true 'secret agent' in the words of the author - a high functioning adult with severe, crippling anxiety and OCD. I've been through cognitive behavioral therapy with no relief. I've also studied mindfulness therapy through a more traditional, Buddhist path. While mindfulness has been promising, it never really sunk in or rang true for me. I just couldn't fully relate. This book/plan takes mindfulness and translates it, for lack of a better term, into Western thoughts and practices. I had so many "a ha" moments it was stunning. It's really helped me see the treatment as viable for me for the first time. Thank you!

Stress from work can keep me up for hours. Being tired at work causes worry. Worry causes anxiety. Anxiety causes stress at night...repeat. This audiobook has done wonders for me, helping to calm the monkey brain in me and get some quality sleep. Highly recommended.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Anyone who wants to know the minutiae of an apocalypse and wants to be bored to tears during it. If you want to learn how many fireplaces on average homes have in different parts of the country. If you want to hear the less than average or interesting main characters retell the same story over and over. Wish to spend the apocalypse with your least favorite neighbor/coworker/insert boring person here.

Would you ever listen to anything by Brad Manuel again?

No.

What three words best describe Scott Brick’s performance?

Tried his best.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Last Tribe?

Chapters 2-32 (where I gave up).

Any additional comments?

With all the great books in this genre I cannot imagine anyone who claims to like it would enjoy this book.
