Abilene Tucker feels abandoned. Her father has put her on a train, sending her off to live with an old friend for the summer while he works a railroad job. Armed only with a few possessions and her list of universals, Abilene jumps off the train in Manifest, Kansas, aiming to learn about the boy her father once was. Having heard stories about Manifest, Abilene is disappointed to find that it's just a dried-up, worn-out old town. But her disappointment quickly turns to excitement when she discovers a hidden cigar box full of mementos.

Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

George swaps wit and humor for crude cheap laughs.
Revisado: 02-25-13
What would have made George Carlin Reads to You better?
I became board and offended by this (formally) intelligent man continually reverting to crude and intentionally offensive language to support his continually weaker and weaker propositions.
What was most disappointing about George Carlin’s story?
George seems to be bent on being offensive to all peoples, groups, and listeners, by condemning and offending those who have other opinions or may hold to moral principles. Come on George, you can do better than this. You’re not in the fourth grade anymore, and the world does not revolve around you. If people took to heart some of the espoused philosophies you promote in this book the world would spiral into selfishness, hate, and cruelty. That just doesn’t seem that funny these days.
What didn’t you like about George Carlin’s performance?
The ratio of swearing to humor. Swearing more and more often does not make things funny, it just shows that you can not, or are not interested in putting forth the effort, in developing your ideas above reverting to shock value. Has the author/performer run out of intelligent humor, or forgotten how, in the past, his showing compassion, moral character and wisdom made people listen to, respect, and enjoy hearing/reading his works? It's sad, and a loss.
