Intriguing first story
Revisado: 09-20-18
The first story, with its detailed descriptions of space travel on Fulton airships, was intriguing. Loved the narrator's ability to accurately speak the accents of the Frenchman, the Russian and the Scot, and portray their culture a bit. Didn't expect the journey to end so horribly, but upon contemplation, many such journeys probably ended in disaster. I think the narration probably saved the other stories, as they are better listened to than read. All in all, it's wonderful to hear a story while I make cinnamon rolls!

Historia
It was a typical February night in 1951 when she stepped into one of Nashville’s many dives and into my life. The blonde asked for my story, wanting to know what had me drinking. She had no idea it was the same thing that had me working at nights, hunting down the monsters that stalk the back alleys of my city. Back in ’31, the job was just supposed to be another bank heist - in, then out, then we'd be rich. But along with the money, we found that cursed ruby, and nothing was the same again.

Great narration by Murdoch Pennington

Just love those 1940s & 50s books & movies that begin with a down & out guy meeting a beautiful mysterious dame in a bar. Murdoch is just the voice for Thomas, kind of like Bogart in Casablana . . . "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all world, she walks into mine." Enjoyed the way Murdoch did a woman's voice, not high, squeaky or unnatural. Also did very convincing voices of all characters, which brought them to life, more so than reading the book. Quite graphic descriptions of gory deaths. But they mostly deserved it. Will listen to other Alan Lewis books on tape, and especially books narrated by Pennington.
