Historia
Light-skinned Black woman Irene Redfield encounters an old childhood friend - Clare - who is now "passing" as a White woman. Clare is married to a racist White man, who doesn't know she has African American blood. In spite of the danger of being found out by her husband and society at large, she finds herself helplessly drawn to Irene's world.

Mindful and Thought Provoking
Revisado: 02-08-24
Well written in ways that capture the complexities of how racism impacts interactions between members of Black communities. The harshness of racist behavior from white people towards Black people was not shied away from, which I find valuable for purposes of bringing awareness to problematic actions like these. Highly recommend!

Historia
In her New York Times opinion column, Jennifer Finney Boylan wrote about her relationship with her beloved dog Indigo, and her wise, funny, heartbreaking piece went viral. In Good Boy, Boylan explores what should be the simplest topic in the world, but never is: Finding and giving love. Good Boy is a universal account of a remarkable story: Showing how a young boy became a middle-aged woman - accompanied at seven crucial moments of growth and transformation by seven memorable dogs. "Everything I know about love," she writes, "I learned from dogs."

Perfect
Revisado: 11-05-23
Jennifer Boylan just received a new top fan. This piece wonderfully portrays the complexities of discovering your true self as you grow. The learning and growing she shares are universally applicable to trans and cis women alike. I find that beautiful and crucial for all people to recognize. I was brought to tears often. I’m keeping a lookout for the rest of her books.

Historia
As American politics descends into a battle of anger and hostility between two groups called "left" and "right," people increasingly ask: What is the essential difference between these two ideological groups? In The Myth of Left and Right, Hyrum Lewis and Verlan Lewis provide the surprising answer: nothing. As the authors argue, there is no enduring philosophy, disposition, or essence uniting the various positions associated with the liberal and conservative ideologies of today.

Makes determinations on unproven claims.
Revisado: 09-22-23
Extremely disappointed with this book. Conclusions around the political binary are poorly expressed by using subjective determinations based on general claims that are objectively untrue and can be proven as such. While on the right track in some regards, the authors completely derail the topic because of shoddy foundations.
It is a shame that I was required to purchase this for a class, because it will receive much more attention than it deserves.

Historia
It's been a year since Eragon departed Alagaësia in search of the perfect home to train a new generation of Dragon Riders. Now, he is struggling with an endless sea of tasks: constructing a vast dragonhold, wrangling with suppliers, guarding dragon eggs, and dealing with belligerent Urgals and haughty elves. Then a vision from the Eldunarí, unexpected visitors, and an exciting Urgal legend offer a much-needed distraction and a new perspective. This volume features three original stories set in Alagaësia, interspersed with scenes from Eragon's own unfolding adventure.

Still obsessed into Adulthood
Revisado: 02-19-22
This was a wonderful addition to the story, provided closure to the series and gave that original feel found when experiencing the first few books. I will always love this story and author. Is a must read for even adults, while still child acceptable.

Trust no one. Pull the trigger. Hide. Run. Stay away from the other survivors. Stay away from the Infected. Emma has obeyed her father's rules since she can remember running from the car accident that claimed his life. But one night that all changes. The knock at her cabin door and the voice of the girl on the other side don't make Emma help the girl. No - it's the fact that the girl, Anna, is willing to die to save her wounded brother that changes everything in Emma's world.

The romance crap is torture
Revisado: 04-16-19
Has a strong, sensible female protagonist, cool viral apocalypse, scary survival aspects, and in-depth psychological themes for the characters. It would be five stars if not for the cringey romantic scenes where the main character says to the guy that keeps hitting on her "Leave me alone, I have more important things to do and I dont need a romance because I'm strong" yet immediately contradicts it in the narration saying "omg I just cant help but be into this guy, even though he *literally grabbed her physically and hurt her*?!!!" I'm so frustrated, having been in domestic violence situations growing up, there is no way someone that experienced it (like was claimed) would even consider being involved with that guy. Still debating if the story is worth this headache...

Mystical, full of emotion
Revisado: 03-26-19
Emotions run back and forth between heart break and loss to hope and innocence, all while amongst a turmoil of danger and the fierceness of facing it. The sweetness of the companionship between the characters was wonderful to witness despite the character going through the hardest of circumstances. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....
