Historia
In December 1606, when they set sail from London for the Virginia coast, the people aboard the three ships anticipated the best. They would establish a British colony, find gold, and discover a water route to Asia. But what awaited them was far different - fire, hunger, sickness, death, even cannibalism. Here, from the noted historian Marshall W. Fishwick, is the dramatic story of Jamestown and the struggle of its leader, Captain John Smith, who, with the help of Pocahontas, daughter of the Algonquian Chief Powhatan, succeeded against all odds.

Fantastic

Gives one a great feel for what happened there from the beginning of British dominance. Took a long time and a lot of blood sweat and tears to establish colonial America considering the home base was across the ocean.

A Signature Performance: Kenneth Branagh plays this like a campfire ghost story, told by a haunted, slightly insane Marlow.

The book is a poem. KB is the perfect voice poet for reading it. Very strange story though.

Historia
"Hassler's history will survive as our most detailed narrative of the first day's battle, examining the day's action so minutely that no succeeding historian of Gettysburg will be able to ignore it. Hassler's book has solid virtues in addition to its thoroughness of detail: it offers a persuasive argument that the first day's events largely determined the eventual outcome of the battle...." Had no idea Doubleday was that crucial on field. When visiting one does not realize what happened at the seminary being all monuments are on McPherson’s ridge. Next time I will spend time there taking it in.

Historia
From the acclaimed Civil War historian, a brilliant new history–the most intimate and richly readable account we have had–of the climactic three-day battle of Gettysburg (July 1–3, 1863), which draws the reader into the heat, smoke, and grime of Gettysburg alongside the ordinary soldier, and depicts the combination of personalities and circumstances that produced the greatest battle of the Civil War, and one of the greatest in human history.

Learned a lot and I’ve been there 25 times. I disagree with some things especially trashing Meade but it’s interesting to hear different new views. Meade might have wanted to retreat but he was the man in charge and stayed. He gets the kudos
