If you like a monotone narration that’s slightly patronizing (and that could also be partly the author’s voice), read this shallow collection of mainstream articles that were published in the last couple of years.

Historia
In this provocative new book, psychologist and social commentator Dr. Jean Twenge documents the self-focus of what she calls "Generation Me" - people born in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Dr. Twenge explores why her generation is tolerant, confident, open-minded, and ambitious but also cynical, depressed, lonely, and anxious. Dr. Twenge reveals how profoundly different today's young adults are - and makes controversial predictions about what the future holds for them and society as a whole.

Historia
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

Misinformation: ancestor memories are NOT stored in our DNA
Revisado: 08-27-24
No, scientists have NOT discovered that our ancestors’ memories are passed down through our DNA. I really hate it when non-scientists allude to science to bolster a point, but who either don’t understand the science or deliberately distort it. It’s already hard enough to write about the subject matter the author has chosen-already in the woo woo category; she undermines her own credibility and then of the field with such irresponsible statements.

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Good story but unrealistic family dynamics & odd reveal at end
Revisado: 07-25-24
I like the story, although one or two less daughters to track would have been nice. The grueling work involved in running a family farm like this could have been depicted a little less romantically. Where were the tensions and imperfections in this perfect family? Why present an abortion at the very end of the book with no insight into the thoughts or feelings of the main character before, during, or after the fact? Narration felt stilted and sounded theatrical in the beginning but got better over time; quite a bit of the middle of the story, was so SLOW with details that didn’t seem to propel the story forward, The narration was a little too mono-tonal for me & made me fall asleep a number of times. The “big secret“ was foreshadowed early on, but then to mention it at the very end with no more emotion than reciting a grocery list and no further insight was strange and disconcerting.

Historia
Carson McCullers was all of 23 when she published her first novel, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. She became an overnight literary sensation, and soon such authors as Tennessee Williams were calling her "the greatest prose writer that the South [has] produced." The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter tells an unforgettable tale of moral isolation in a small southern mill town in the 1930s.

I loved how uniquely each character expressed their compassion and anger, especially in contrast to their inner thoughts, McCullers writing is so good I felt like I was in the town and knew these people.

Uggh. Couldn’t finish this contrived, overacted and exploitative “Drama”
Revisado: 02-12-24
Overly dramatic presentation, poorly written dialog, worse “elderly man” voice ever- it literally sounds like the voice actor was plugging his nose! There is already enough well-done true crime available. Why try to make up a story in which every little twist is explained even though it’s predictable.
