This is an excellent treatment of the subject. J. R. MacGregor spends maybe a little more time psychoanalyzing JD and his family than providing historical narrative, but overall the story is well done, clearly well researched, and well written. To me, the weakest part of the book was J. R. MacGregor attempt to discuss the antitrust concepts in play. He seemed a bit confused at times as to what conduct was competition at work and what, under modern standards would be considered anticompetitive. At times he notes the irony that some of SO's biggest critics engaged in the same tactics, but never squares the circle so to speak on what is okay and what is not.. But overall I found this to be a good listen and recommend it to anyone who is interested in the subject matter.

The J. P. Morgan: The Life and Deals of America's Banker takes some force of will to make it through. There are times when J. R. MacGregor can take an anecdote and turn it into 3-5 chapter of unnecessary detail. That being said, he dutifully retells the entire history of Morgan and it is a fascinating listen of both business and politics throughout modern american history and banking.

There is a decent amount of good principals in this book that many businesses today would be better off by applying to Henry Ford business models, but there are also a number of places where Mr. Ford alludes to a fairy-tale utopian, socialistic society as part of an answer to so-called inequalities, but J.R. MacGregor also points out that to the man who works hard and with proper intent, reward is to be expected and oftentimes inevitable. He has a few ideas I totally disagree with, but a wise individual can filter out the "chaff". There are also some amusing sections that tediously list production numbers and figures that some may find boring, but I found amusing. a somewhat long listen , but anyone who will work as a manager under me will now need to listen portions of this book.

This book jumped around quite a bit, and had so many characters I had trouble keeping each generation straight at times, but all in all. It was alot of historic information to fit into one story, however it listen like a novel and led me to listen other books describing this time period. From other sources I have listen , this hit everything I was interested in, and seemed accurate of other accounts.

This was a good biography of Andrew Carnegie but I would've liked to have known more about his immediate family, his wife and daughter and great-grandchildren. I also wish they had told what the difference was between iron and steel since that was a huge part of the story.
