Excellent book but please don't whisper!
Revisado: 01-17-23
I know the main character is soft spoken but for heaven's sakes, please don't whisper. I spent a lot of time turning the radio up and down! Its a great story but please don't let Joyce be the main character again.

Performance needs some work
Revisado: 08-09-21
Almost drove me crazy. Main character whispered so up with the volume, characters screamed so down with the volume. Story was kind of cute so I suffered along. I listened in my car so thankfully there's a volume button on my steering wheel. I know I missed some of the story but I got the gist. Not sure I can stand to try the second book.

Historia
Meg Langslow's summer is not going swimmingly. In her small Virginia hometown, she's the maid of honor at the nuptials of three loved ones - each of whom has dumped the planning in her hands. One bride is set on including a Native American herbal purification ceremony while another wants live peacocks on the lawn. But when an offensive newcomer, who hints at skeletons in the guests' closets, is found dead under suspicious circumstances, level-headed Meg's to-do list extends from flower arrangements and bridal registries to catching a killer - before the next event is her own funeral.

Really too long
Revisado: 07-21-20
Nice book, nice story . . . it just took too long to unravel. Honestly could have been told in half the time.

Very slow to evolve
Revisado: 05-22-20
The plot is not terribly complicated and the story was very slow to evolve. I found myself wanting to skip to the end on several occasions. The narrator was very good but there was, for me, too much time spent on how the main character felt. I need more story and less feelings!

Historia
January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent. When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel’s innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth.

The characters are wonderful. Funny and clever. I love a character with a smart retort and the two main characters are very entertaining. Plus the story was really good, too.

Characters too sing-song for me
Revisado: 07-28-19
Performance was exhausting. I did not even finish it and that is very rare for me. Every character has a sing-song-ish speech pattern that was so distracting I have no idea what the plot was. I thought the first book in the series was pretty good so I knew the second one would be better - but I was wrong. Won't try another one.

What happened to Titus Welliver?
Revisado: 06-08-19
I thought that the narrator had perhaps not looked at the book before he read it until I discovered that the author was also the narrator. It was one of the most poorly read books I have listened to. The reading was jerky and hesitant in all the wrong places. It was so distracting that I skipped most of the last half hoping to find out who the main character's mother was — disappointment there too. And some of the story line was just plain weird. This is my last Hitch and Cole novel.

Love Kate Morton
Revisado: 12-06-18
I have been waiting for a new book from Kate Morton and am now sad I have finished her latest. The Clockmaker's Daughter was excellent as all of her books are! This one had many stories that slowly, intricately wove together into a wonderful tale. When you are done, the characters have become so real that you sit and wonder what happened to them and where are they now. And it was read beautifully by Joanne Froggatt (of Downton Abbey fame).
