Historia
When he was 12 years old, Adam Ryan went playing in the woods one day with his two best friends. He never saw them again. Their bodies were never found, and Adam himself was discovered with his back pressed against an oak tree and his shoes filled with blood. He had no memory of what had happened. Twenty years on, Rob Ryan - the child who came back - is a detective in the Dublin police force. He's changed his name. No one knows about his past.

Excellent story
Revisado: 07-07-23
I liked story, characters. On my taste a bit too much self-pitying and victimhood on the part of each single personage. But may be it’s how are things are written now - everyone is a victim of this or that. Especially in Ireland.

Historia
The 25 years between the onset of the French Revolution in 1789 and the Bourbon Restoration after Napoleon in 1814 is an astonishing period in world history. This era shook the foundations of the old world and marked a permanent shift for politics, religion, and society - not just for France, but for all of Europe. An account of the events alone reads like something out of a thrilling novel.

Interesting but very lefty Marxist take on a subject
Revisado: 12-14-21
I don’t question the depth of knowledge, erudition and passion on the subject. Still this course can be read without any changes in a Soviet University in 1970-early 1980th (when I was a student in one of those universities ). It’s thoroughly Marxist radical left view of the subject. To cite one example author tread lightly over the Jacobin terror in slightly regretful but understanding tone, to reserve her passion and much more details to denunciations of the Gironde or so called white terror. Interesting that completely missing are comparisons to Russian revolution, Terror and Stalinism which were much closer in nature to French Revolution and buonopartism than comparative analysis to American revolution and central and South American liberation. The latter ones were not so much social and political revolutions than anti colonial liberation movements.

Historia
The terrible conflict that dominated the mid-19th century, the Crimean War, killed at least 800,000 men and pitted Russia against a formidable coalition of Britain, France and the Ottoman Empire. It was a war for territory, provoked by fear that if the Ottoman Empire were to collapse then Russia could control a huge swathe of land from the Balkans to the Persian Gulf. But it was also a war of religion, driven by a fervent, populist and ever more ferocious belief by the Tsar and his ministers that it was Russia's task to rule all Orthodox Christians and control the Holy Land.

Best book on Crimean war
Revisado: 03-08-21
Highly readable, in depth, comprehensive history of Crimean war and all aspects: political, economy, historical , popular perception , cultural, technological for all major participants: Russia, Britain, France, Turkey and even Piedmont / Italy. Impressed by the authors in depth knowledge of Russian history, culture and even Russian language. Especially for American . The best and most balanced book on a subject I encountered so far.
