What an eye opener for this Gen-Xer who missed the Cold War drills, hadn't had to think much about politics, the state of the world, etc. until late.

Jacobsen researches and writes in thrilling and horrifying detail about what may happen after just one nuclear weapon is launched, and what all the compliancy of my generation may cost us.

Two reading tips:

1. Listen at 1.2 speed like other reviewers have said.
2. Plan to not want to stop listening. I stayed up all night.

Enjoy the horror.

An honest, beautiful memoir about addiction. But most importantly, a story about wanting to be good, knowing deep down you are worth something and fighting like hell to keep swimming to sober shores to find love and life and ultimate purpose.

His dark night of the soul lasted damn near 30 years. Let the light in now friend.

Do not waste your credit! There are all kinds of problems with this book. The present day timing was all screwed up and the stories are all convoluted and dull.

Hot Mess at best.

As an ACON of a powerful, yet subtle narcissistic parent, I found this book invaluable in helping to validate my experiences and feelings.

Thank you for writing it!

Cassandra Campbell could read the phone book and I'd listen, so when this food memoir came up as an "Included in my membership" selection it was a no brainer...and then I was enthralled.

As a fellow Michigander, who also lived in the Bay area and took road trips to Florida as a young girl with my family, there were so many instances where my own memories were conjured awake I couldn't stop listening. I could taste the fried smelt, feel the cold during ice fishing adventures and flat out started balling when she started singing Shortning Bread.

Kathleen, thank you so much for sharing your story, and I'm digging into your first book next!!!
CC hit this one out of the park as well.

Bravo!

This book should be given out as required reading at the first prenatal OB/ Gyn appointment to first time parents, again in Pre-K orientation, and then to all 7th grade students, high school freshmen, etc.

This sort of knocked me sideways honestly. In a good way. As my biggest regret in life was not being able to afford an elite education, I now am completely rethinking the education I was able to cobble together, complete with a sidebar move to Montana during undergrad.

We are doing it wrong in this country in so many arenas, and this book explains both how we got to a mediocre, entitled elite making all of our major policy decisions. And, how modern day parents and kids are being hoodwinked into and by the system of overparenting and a valueless and idealless education model.

Wow. Thanks Bill D. Looking forward to reading your book on artists next.

And a standing ovation! I'm awe struck by this story, the lessons and sentiments and by the writing. The author depicts her truths perfectly, and pulls back the curtain on the mostly ugly truths of sociey's deep, dark feelings about able bodies vs differently abled bodies. And there is joy, heartbreak and so, so much love.

As a non-mom, I gleaned insights into the joys and sorrows and overwhelmingness of parenting in general. But mostly, this book and this family's story reinforced the idea that we all need to challenge the concept of normal, in every way, in order to make life better for everyone.

The writing is clear, clean and gorgeous. The story is beautiful. Thank you!

This is a call to arms ( legs, finger, toes and thighs, and all the beautiful parts of all women) if you will. Women need to stand up for ourselves, one another and our communities and follow our truths. The only way to make the world a better place is to "know" and believe and then act. I was on the fence about Glennon, although leaning towards jumping over to her side of the pasture...until this book. She is a brilliant storyteller and love of all forms, including the hard parts, is her game. Read it and join us on this side of the fence where truth, beauty, pain and knowing are a way of life. "We can all do hard things."

The Narrator Was Fine

Okay, so Saskia M. is not Jennifer Ikedea, but the narration was perfectly fine. If you are a fan of the All Souls trilogy, it really does feel like the same set of characters once you dive in. I did not buy this for the longest time due to the bad narration reviews. Not until my mom asked me to download it, did I take the chance and it was fine.

If anything, I was a more dissappoited with the story than the narration. The history is interesting, but I was left wanting to hear more of Becca and Pip and Pip's griffin. It's still classic Harkness and totally worth a credit.
