Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

This audio play is based on one of the greatest stage dramas, focused on the story of family, generational trauma, and so much more. This absolutely updates the story beyond anything I could comprehend. Yes, it's about a family of BIPOC women and the world they live in, the terrifying decisions they must make every day.
If you think, "I don't see race", listen to this, see where you relate to the story, and remember how the human condition can be universal-- and then notice that these characters deal with issues you have privilege to know little about. Enjoy it and Grow from it. If you think "Too much racism, too much bigotry," this play is a mirror-- find yourself in it, and act accordingly.

Content uses Queer Representation as a Device
Revisado: 01-07-19
Diane is great. The content of this book uses queer representation as a vehicle to tell a pitiful "almost" romance between a woman who thinks this guy is a homophobe and a...well....homophobe. The queer representation that the book uses as a reason to put these characters together is using the LGBT community's biggest hurdle in the past 10 years to get people to read it. Between the author's aesthetic (queer representing in clothing, hair, etc) and non binary use of her name, I expected a story to do more than simply use and abuse a serious issue to the LGBT community. Instead, this poorly written novella is short, shallow, and pretends to have a deep meaning when it only has a Lifetime tv movie quote at the end.
