Historia
In the tradition of Jared Diamond and Jacques Barzun, prize-winning historian Anthony Pagden presents a sweeping history of the long struggle between East and West, from the Greeks to the present day.
The relationship between East and West has always been one of turmoil. In this historical tour de force, a renowned historian leads us from the world of classical antiquity, through the Dark Ages, to the Crusades, Europe's resurgence, and the dominance of the Ottoman Empire, which almost shattered Europe entirely. Pagden travels from Napoleon in Egypt to Europe's carving up of the finally moribund Ottomans - creating the modern Middle East along the way - and on to the present struggles in Iraq.

A MASTERPIECE
Revisado: 07-18-18
Pagden's outstanding work! One of the greatest history books - even for those who don't like history - you'd be surprised by the amount of knowledge gained. A MASTERPIECE, this book is a treasure!

Historia
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of its original publication, here is a new translation of the classic story of the life and loves of a poet/physician during the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. Taking his family from Moscow to what he hopes will be shelter in the Ural Mountains, Zhivago finds himself instead embroiled in the battle between the Whites and the Reds. Set against this backdrop of cruelty and strife is Zhivago’s love for the tender and beautiful Lara.

John Lee narration equiv of the burning of books
Revisado: 07-18-18
John Lee reads the entire book as if it is a SPELLING TEST. This is The ENLIGHTMENT AGE version of the 21st Century equivalent to the BURNING OF BOOKS in the DARK AGES. John Lee is the only audiobook narrator of masterpieces like 100 Years if Solitude by Garcia Marquez, Dr. Zhivago, Thus Spake Zarathustra (no big loss there, in my opinion, but definitely deserves our fair evaluation of such nonsense without having to listen to a SHRIEKING narration). I AM GOINNGUE T TOO POST T T THIS.

Historia
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

John Lee narration equiv of the burning of books
Revisado: 01-15-18
John Lee narration is the equivalent of the burning of books in the dark ages. John Lee reads the entire book as if it is a spelling contest and his voice intonations are out of touch with the content and meaning. This is the 21st century Enlightenment version of The Burning of Books.

Title misleading. Thin (ultra thin) version of Tony Robbins, might as well read the master.

Luke Weil gives listeners an up-close look at the strategies he has used to generate such immense success as a blogger. After starting off with just a small blog and no clear monetization strategy, Weil's blog became such a sensation that he was able to make a career out of the platform he created merely as a hobby. Even though his initial success came almost entirely by accident, Weil has since created a host of other wildly successful blogs while consulting countless others on how to generate significant streams of revenue through blogging.

Historia
The Kaddish has long been considered to be a special prayer for the dead. It isn't. Those who recite the prayer faithfully for 52 Friday nights after the death of a loved one may wonder why there is no place for the name of the deceased in the prayer. This book contains much new information on the Kaddish, including how it was created during the Crusades as an homage to God.

Fragmented collection of legends and sayings
Revisado: 03-01-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Read in a pleasant coherent manner. Content of story is disappointing, a mambo-jumbo collection of legends, saying some history and some people personal events - All ashkenazi without exception (Jews from Eastern Europe who passed the holocaust). It is not doing justice or honor not to God, not to religion, and definitely not to Judaism. Stupid sayings like: if you drink 96 percent proof alcohol at the beginning of the day you are cleansed from your sins and starting with a new slate.. that is rubbish..
What do you think your next listen will be?
I feel it is a waste of an audio book. Would not listen to it again.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love George Guidall - that's why I bought the book.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No. It is not doing justice or honor not to God, not to religion, and definitely not to Judaism. Stupid sayings like: if you drink 96 percent proof alcohol at the beginning of the day you are cleansed from your sins and starting with a new slate.. that is rubbish..
Any additional comments?
Disrespectful undertones to religion tradition and history.
