Historia
Evan Smoak is a highly trained former government assassin who has survived for years by keeping his circle to a few trusted confidants and a strict code he calls “The Ten Commandments.” But when Evan suddenly finds himself at odds with his oldest friend, all the rules he lives by shatter—and the consequences are murderous. Tommy Stojack might be Evan's best friend in the world. He’s a gifted gunsmith who has created much of Evan's own weapons and combat gear. But now, he has apparently crossed one of Evan's hardest lines and their argument explodes into open warfare.

Drama,Drama,Drama, then some Action
Revisado: 03-30-25
As one reviewer before me expressed, Scott Brick would dramatize buttering toast. Think this is my last X book. Most of the story X is "in his head" overthinking everything. Scott Brick can do a great job at narrating but for X books his formula is becoming boring and predictable.

Historia
Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

Started Strong but...
Revisado: 02-25-25
First the narrators were great Will Wheaton & Ron Pearlman are always worth listening to. I felt this story started with a great premise. There was an opportunity to develop a storyline that could take the reader in so many different paths but the path the story took was dark then darker until it just ran into the ground. I gave the story 3 stars for imagination but I would give it 1 star for the poor ending. It could have been so much more.

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

An Entertaining Listen
Revisado: 02-13-25
A theme I found interesting in this book is that the characters can develop a "purpose" which they can carry forward and develop across their various lives. I was intrigued by the back stories presented by some of the main characters. Kind of a bit of historical fiction. The narrators in this book are outstanding! The voices of each character is unique, clear, and project emotions. It was for me a thoroughly entertaining listen.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

An Example of Good Sci-fi

An intriguing and imaginative story without tons of melodrama. Innovative in the sense of the multidimensional "skip" drive technology. Good Sci-fi.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Is the Series Losing Steam?
Revisado: 11-14-24
I have absolutely loved the Bobiverse series until this book. I do like the book but I found this one more difficult to follow all of the different story lines. It was erratic, difficult to track and distracting. Perhaps the ending in this book is meant to be the unifying factor for tying the various Bob adventures together for future books ...?

Timely Subject Matter of AI
Revisado: 08-21-24
In this book Greg Hurwitz introduces us to some very real possibilities of the uses of AI and user information. I have loved the Orphan X series read by Scott Brick, however with this book there were times I'd hit pause and go off to listen to something else. In this book, the teenage drama coupled with X's constant self analysis have begun to take away rather than add to the story. Plus, a big plus, it doesn't help that Scott Brick has become so accustomed to reading the Orphan X series that he over dramatizes the mundane pieces of the story. I love X / the Nowhere Man and his moral based adventures but the heavy drama as read by Scott Brick is becoming too much to wade though... we'll see if I purchase the next book.

Timely Story! A Near Term Future?
Revisado: 07-14-24
AI technology is developing at an unprecedented pace. This story is excellent because it introduces the reader to some very realistic ideas of how AI could be weaponized, both intentionally and unintentionally. There are some strong warnings to be taken from this book. Mr. Greany, in this book, portends the future like so many SciFi writers have. This was another fantastic GreyMan book. I still can't seem to get enough.

Historia
As a boy, Evan Smoak was pulled out of a foster home and trained in an off-the-books operation known as the Orphan Program. He was a government assassin, perhaps the best, known to a few insiders as Orphan X. He eventually broke with the Program and adopted a new name - The Nowhere Man - and a new mission, helping the most desperate in their times of trouble.

Sappy. Mired in Emotional baggage.
Revisado: 02-09-24
Don't get me wrong I love the Orphan X series but this one I should have passed up. First, it's a great story with very timely ideas on what can and probably is happening in the world of micro drones. So the story is good but... Ongoing anxieties, self reflection, "what if I..." scenarios, and internal dramas played out by every character began to wear on my nerves. I don't think there is a single character that isn't carrying some sort of emotional baggage that is constantly reviewed, re-reviewed, and rehashed over and over again. Simply tiring. It places a pall on an otherwise good story. Plus the narrator, who I usually like, just added continuous dramatic emphasis to the inane and unnecessary. He made it just too sappy and I felt that every character had a pathetic life with few redeeming qualities. I'd pass on this Orphan X book. I couldn't wait till it was over.
