A good variety of short stories. Enjoyed each of them, but they are not in chronological order.

I had read the book several years ago, so I was familiar with the story. But as a tribute to both the author and the narrator, there were scenes in which I cried (trying to avoid a spoiler here)--even though I knew what happened in a future scene in the book. Susan Ericksen creates the right tone for the series and Elizabeth Vaughan is a most talented writer.

When I began listening to this book, I was reminded initially of Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy, which is one of my favorite Heyer books. But Kasey Michaels quickly made this her own book. The characters are fun, the story is entertaining and the narration is spot-on. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I won't reveal my age by disclosing how many years ago I first discovered Kasey Michaels and her most excellent Regency romances. This volume is no exception to the quality I expect from her novels--a well written romance--this one with an intertwined mystery--and complex, compelling characters complimented by witty dialogue. Thomas Joseph Donovan is a worthy hero on a mission for his country and President Madison, detoured but not derailed by the beautiful Marguerite Balfour, willful, stubborn and with "a temper like a hedgehog," on a mission of revenge. The reader was perfect. I received a free copy of the Audible edition in exchange for an honest review.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend the book--not the audiobook. I wouldn't want any of my friends to think I thought the narration was even decent. I gave an audiobook to a friend one Christmas--good story, poor narrator. My friend's son heard part of the book and asked my friend why I hated her. NOT doing that again!

What did you like best about this story?

I love Elizabeth Moon's plots and characters.

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe’s performance?

I didn't like anything about her performance. It's hard to detail all the problems. She brings no life to the story; she whines; she mispronounces even common words. Has she never heard the word "sire?" I'm sure I missed parts of the story yelling at the narrator every time she said "seer" instead of "sire." I yelled over her many other mispronunciations as well, but "sire" obviously got to me. IF she had to be the reader, she could have at least listened to one of the other books to hear the correct pronunciations. Didn't anyone listen to this before releasing it? Was there not an editor? If I didn't love the series so much, I would not have progressed past the first 5 minutes. There are narrators I dearly love to hear, some which I like, several I tolerate and few I refuse to listen to. Ms. Dawes is now on the latter list.

Did Limits of Power inspire you to do anything?

Listen to the final book in the series. Glad to see that Susan Erickson is reading it. I checked.

What made the experience of listening to Knit the Season the most enjoyable?

I listened to the book during the Christmas season, so the work/family/self issues--dilemmas in the book-- were part of my on-going balancing act and thus relevant and encouraged internal dialogue as a I agreed or disagreed with a character's position.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anita is my favorite character. She is wise and elegant and loving--yet has her times of self-doubt and can be manipulated by those she loves and trusts. She is very real and a role model.

Which scene was your favorite?

The double wedding was great, but I also liked the bridal shower.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Gran gave Dakota, James and Mrs. Walker photos of Georgia at Christmas, I cried. This was not a good thing as I was driving to work and didn't want to have to explain about crying over fictional characters.

Any additional comments?

This is a story rich in relationships. The women seem like women we all know, with good points and flaws, skills and deficiencies. They even annoy each other at times--just like real friends. One of the things I particularly liked about the book was that some of the scenes seemed set up for a particular action and the author didn't go for the predictable. The turn was in the story flowed from the previous action, but it wasn't formulaic, which made it much more enjoyable. I've set this book aside to listen to again next Christmas.
