Historia
Brother Diaz has been summoned to the Sacred City, where he is certain a commendation and grand holy assignment awaits him. But his new flock is made up of unrepentant murderers, practitioners of ghastly magic, and outright monsters. The mission he is tasked with will require bloody measures from them all in order to achieve its righteous ends. Elves lurk at our borders and hunger for our flesh, while greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions and comfort. With a hellish journey before him, it's a good thing Brother Diaz has the devils on his side.

It works so well on audio!
Revisado: 07-10-25
I love the plot. Love the characters. Love the voices. Love how the emotions and jibea and sarcasm and banter comes across on audio. It's something you really can't capture on page that well so I would 10000% recommend The Devils on audio! Some books are just elevated and this is one of them for sure

Historia
Waking on an unfamiliar floor, Pax is faced with two hard truths. A murderous government agency wants her dead - and monsters really do exist. What’s more, her body’s going haywire, which she desperately hopes isn’t a side-effect of her encounters in the city’s tunnels. To survive, and protect Ordshaw, she’s got to expose who, or what, is behind the chaos - and she can’t do it alone. But with only the trigger-happy Fae to turn to, Pax’s allies might kill her before her enemies do....

Great continuation of the story!
Revisado: 07-10-25
Blue Angel picks up right where the prior book leaves off, throwing us into the aftermath of the confrontation.
lingering effects change Pax's view of the issues at hand. I liked the new characters that came in! The fae are brutal little suckers and I love Fran Burgoyne's voices for them.
I wasn't expecting the actual ... ha ha ... no spoilers but you won't believe what the Prelucente looks like. I'm dying to find out what happens in the next book and thankfully can dial it up asap!

action packed sci-fi!
Revisado: 07-10-25
Syndicate Moon picks up where Stellar Heir left off. The crew is stuck on a moon ruled by syndicate thugs, the ship is impounded under a mountain of debt, and the only way out is through.
I liked how this book took on more political plottng and insight into the ancient civilizations. Everything went a lot deeper into the characters and story. I did zone out a bit during some of the super long action scenes and I think YA readers would love this as a gateway into sci-fi.
Powers are shifting across the moon and alliances are changing, setting up the players for the next book.
I do with Jael would cork his ego a bit though, is he really a great fighter if he keeps getting mortally wounded every five pages and relying on the artifact to keep him alive? If it weren't for that he'd be dead 200x over and I do wish he'd show a little more initiative for keeping himself alive on his own, but maybe in future books he will embrace some teaching that I think is coming.
Either way, I'm excited for book three after that last chapter!

Historia
Ordshaw’s not like other cities. But don’t tell them you know that. Pax is one rent cheque and six days away from the rough streets of Ordshaw. A big poker score should’ve settled that - if a vagrant hadn’t mugged her and been promptly abducted by spooks. She’s got connections with the Ordshaw underworld who know how to track people down. But all Pax finds is otherworldly technology and a book of fiercely imagined monsters.

Fast paced story with feisty fae!
Revisado: 06-01-25
This is a fast paced, wild ride through Ordshaw and it's secret depths. We meet the main character nearly during a robbery and the pace never slows down. Pax and Letty, the violent faerie she encounters, both have to learn how to work with other people and open their hearts...just a tiny bit. I liked both of them a lot.
I also like how some of the side characters end up being big players. One named Holly starts out a little iffy but I was impressed with her at the end. The other main character, an agent for a shady government agency, was hilariously bad as he made up fantasies about himself and Pax working together. Trust me you just have to read it!
This wild group of characters has to navigate a secret world that is new to most of them, find out what's going on, who to trust, and how to defend themselves against all the things moving in the dark. It's really great overall.
Fran Burgoyne is a pretty good narrator, it just took me a WHILE to get used to her accent. I ended up looking at the book to make sure I was getting the character names right. I liked her once I got going though. I think she did the best for Letty and Pax voices for sure, the men were a tad hit or miss but overall I'd 100% recommend the audiobook!

Good premise
Revisado: 04-12-25
So I think this story has a lot of potential but especially on audio, it's just too much to take in at once. The ebook has an index of characters and maps but on audio it was far too much to keep straight in my head. I didn't love the narrator's female voices and he also barely paused between sections so it was hard to tell when the scene was shifting.
I finished the book reading on Kindle and overall it's a good story but felt like a surface skimmed version of many epic fantasies I've read. I'd like to keep reading to see what happens though for sure since it ended on an interesting note and I love anything with a pegasus!

My favorite so far
Revisado: 01-05-25
I've had mixed but mostly positive reactions to the first two Scarpetta books, but this was by far the best of them! The mystery itself was a compulsive read, with another lucky break that solved the case. This time Kay got lucky and got onto the final suspect, although I do wish that she would become central in solving these cases through her forensics. that's my biggest gripe. I liked seeing a more human side to Marino this time too. My other gripe is having a hard time following what's going on between books ..apparently Kay and Mark had gotten back together but he had already called for a separation? How much time is passing? it's also hard to remember that Kay isn't actually a detective so we get an odd mix of not really knowing how the case is progressive except from peripheral sources, with her investigations that contribute.
I'm getting used to CJ Critt though and except for a bit of loud breathing, she's quite good for the overall performance and fits the characters well

Darkly fun story, awesome narrator
Revisado: 12-16-24
This is my first Keymark story and I am absolutely going to go check out The Legend of Blackjack soon. it was a bit difficult to get into the world at first since magic dimensional shifts aren't my thing, but in a prior book I believe this is all explained.
This is a great cast of characters brought to life with full personality by the author/narrator. I love passionate narrators and Witham goes well out of his way to make this reading a great performance. if he ever needs a side gig, children's audiobook narration is an option!
While this felt like a YA book, many themes and plot points got quite dark like torture, body horror, betrayal, and many bitey spiders. I think it's a YA with caution story for sure but easily enjoyable by adults.
If you like nonstop action and great performance, this is an audiobook you should definitely check out!

Glad to try this finally
Revisado: 09-10-24
I was psyched to see this in the plus catalogue
The story is good if not a little brutal at times, but my curiosity was peaked when I say Karin Slaughter writing that Cornwell did the hard stuff first (for female authors)
All the early technology is fun in these books. Some of the language wouldn't hold up in a 2024 release but I enjoy the throwback to what was acceptable in the 90s
I also like the voices the narrator does, but her breathing and breath intakes are terrible. I had to speed it up to minimize it but almost did the fastest audiobook DNF ever

my favorite of the series
Revisado: 08-11-24
I still feel like the entire trilogy lacked a couple of strong connecting points, but this was my favorite ol them
the narrator is decent and easy to understand throughout. I like them via audio because I was struggling to read on paper. Good if you like YA type fantasy
