Historia
Eliza’s world broke apart when she was sixteen and her mom died of cancer. Now, years later, she has rebuilt her life to include a director-of-development job at a nonprofit, a Manhattan apartment, and an easy-on-the-eyes bedroom buddy—just the kind of no-strings relationship she wants, even if it’s less than her best friend, Mo, thinks she deserves. But when Eliza’s dad dies unexpectedly, her beloved aunt Claude arrives at the shiva with a letter from her mom—to be opened only after her father’s death. Inside the letter? A bombshell.

Didn't Find The Story Engaging
Revisado: 01-30-25
I found the characters and storyline to be very uninspired. It felt like the majority of the story was filler, and not the interesting kind. Super disappointed. Wish I hadn't wasted a credit on this.

Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Disappointingly predictable
Revisado: 01-29-25
I liked the characters at the beginning and the setup for the story seems like it would be interesting. I thought it was going to be funny and awkward. But the whole thing turned out to be completely predictable. It was far too drawn out for the story that it was. It should have been short and sweet. Julia Whelan is a pro as always, she could narrate a car manual.

Historia
Daphne Bell believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she’d spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend.

Tedious, felt like it would never end.
Revisado: 05-06-24
A lot of nothing interesting. The writing was disappointing, the character development minimal at best. This was fluff and yes, it's appropriately advertised as such. But it's the boring kind of fluff, mostly filler and none of it interesting. Lots of details about clothes, the weather and food. A light read, but the kind that has you looking forward to the end so you can move on rather than looking forward to finding out what happens. Even the serious thread was detailed in a mundane way.

I have no idea what the point of this book was. it seemed like a missed opportunity to me. I was hopeful that it would be entertaining and thought-provoking. I didn't find it to be either. Very disappointing.

Historia
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

unrealistic relationships
Revisado: 01-27-24
I like the setup but I couldn't get past the characters lack of realistic relationships. And didn't care for all the cornmeal filler, that was a lot of meaningless blah blah blah. This was just not very interesting or engaging.

Two years later, she’s finally starting to believe it. But then, in a twisted turn of fate, the ex-boyfriend who wrecked her life is hired as her new boss and past and present are about to epically, hilariously collide.

Charming and Fun
Revisado: 11-27-22
I really enjoyed the main character, Ester. She's a feisty but caring old bat. In my mind she looked like Jessica Tandy. This novel had good characters, real feelings, authentic relationships, as well as a bit of humor and fun. I found it charming (and I mean that as a compliment).
