Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

The best science fiction book in a while
Revisado: 07-06-24
Wow, just wow. It's been a while I've loved a book so much that I did not want it to come to an end.
This book is that good, and the performance by Ray Porter on the audible version is at the top 3 audible performances I've come across. You really could not guess how this plays out from the beginning, unlike many other fiction books. This is an all-round 5-star performance from Andy Weir.
Highly recommended.

Historia
The book probes the possible roles of four brothers in the unresolved murder of their father, Fyodor Karamazov. At the same time, it carefully explores the personalities and inclinations of the brothers themselves. Their psyches together represent the full spectrum of human nature, the continuum of faith and doubt. Ultimately, this novel seeks to understand the real meaning of faith and existence and includes much beneficial philosophical and spiritual discussion that moves the reader towards faith.

Beautiful book, beautiful narration
Revisado: 05-02-23
Having read the full version, I decided to have a go at the abridged version by Simon Vance. With this version, you get all the flesh of the story with little loss of facts. This is a very impressive piece of literal work. Dostoyevsky was really good.

Historia
Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

Another brilliant take by Lewis
Revisado: 02-06-23
I admit I had to reread this to get the real message in it. It is one of the few C.S. Lewis books that requires some effort in concentration to get through. But once you do, it becomes a great book. I believe I'll have to read this again. Especially the abolition of man.

Historia
In The Price of Time, Edward Chancellor traces the history of interest from its origins in ancient Mesopotamia, through debates about usury in Restoration Britain and John Law's ill-fated Mississippi scheme, to the global credit booms of the twenty-first century. We generally assume that high interest rates are harmful, but Chancellor argues that, whenever money is too easy, financial markets become unstable. He takes the story to the present day, when interest rates have sunk lower than at any time in the five millennia since they were first recorded.

Brilliant work of history once again
Revisado: 08-31-22
The book pretty much covers the history of rates and the impact of setting this price at a divergence from what markets are offering. Most of the writings feel so obvious and agreeable that one would wonder how we traveled much far from these assertions. Highly recommended

Historia
Trade disputes are usually understood as conflicts between countries with competing national interests, but as Matthew C. Klein and Michael Pettis show in this book, they are often the unexpected result of domestic political choices to serve the interests of the rich at the expense of workers and ordinary retirees. Klein and Pettis trace the origins of today's trade wars to decisions made by politicians and business leaders in China, Europe, and the United States over the past 30 years.

It makes sense
Revisado: 01-17-22
After reading quite a lot on global trade and macro, this finally makes sense. Once you can move past the reader's robotic flow (I highly recommend the physical book), the case presented by the authors are difficult to fault. This is a must read to understand how the world really works. So, rather than blame other regions for local imbalances and deficits, look to the elites that suppress wage growth and financially repress savers to maintain their status.

Historia
As today's preeminent doomsday investor Mark Spitznagel describes his Daoist and roundabout investment approach, “one gains by losing and loses by gaining.” This is Austrian Investing, an archetypal, counterintuitive, and proven approach, gleaned from the 150-year-old Austrian School of economics, that is both timeless and exceedingly timely. The Dao of Capital provides a rare and accessible look through the lens of one of today's great investors to discover a profound harmony with the market process—a harmony that is so essential today.
