Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Original and touching!
Revisado: 12-20-22
I really enjoyed this entire book. I thought the narrator did a great job and it was such an interesting ride from start to finish. Great sci fi and I didn’t find the military aspect overbearing at all. It was a touching story of friendship, love, and humanity. I can’t wait to read the next one.

1000% worth the hype
Revisado: 05-05-22
I’m always a little skeptical when someone recommends a good fantasy, but this one is the best I’ve read in years. The pacing, plot, characters, and world-building left nothing to be desired. The narrator was perfect. If you’re on the fence about this one, hop off and just buy it already—it really is that good.

A devastating, fitting, beautiful end
Revisado: 12-01-21
I didn’t want to read this book because I knew it would be the end of such an incredible story. But of course, I couldn’t stay away either. Jefferson Mays was brilliant as always. It seems incredible that the authors were able to wrap so much up in such a deep and elegant way. It ended the only way it could end, and we got to experience all the same joy and heartbreak that have been woven throughout the series with each of my favorite characters. I can’t see how anyone could possibly dislike anything about this book, or this series. Truly a masterpiece that I’ll come back to again and again.

What a masterpiece
Revisado: 08-22-21
This book is lovely, sweeping, and captivating. It is beautifully written and so well researched. It humanized the people who lived at the time without glamorizing everything like most medieval books. I really enjoyed the audiobook, it was well read and the narrator was perfect.

Revisado: 12-03-20
From start to finish, this series has been a favorite. There’s so much deep, aching pain and so much beauty. I love the characters and the author did each of them justice in their own way. It ended perfectly, wrapping up all the lose ends. The audio performances were wonderful and made the book so enjoyable.

Revisado: 10-21-20
I loved the concept and the radio-program style story telling. It was a compelling story, no annoying tropes or frustrating cliches. Just pure humanity fighting to keep hope and trust alive. The cast was perfect. I’d love to have more of these bite sized, big impact stories told episodically!

Touching and magnificent
Revisado: 09-01-20
Treason is a special book with the best ending I’ve ever experienced. Some of the racial concepts/language were a bit uncomfortable, but unfortunately, realistic. The first chapter presents ideas so bizarre that I almost stopped reading. Don’t. Just keeping going and you won’t regret it.

Superbly unique, surprisingly human
Revisado: 08-18-20
Such a cool concept with the right mix of bitter sweet. I saw lots of reviews criticizing the ending, but for me it was absolutely perfect. The story is a very cerebral and biological form of science fiction that I haven’t encountered before. Would definitely recommend!

Revisado: 07-27-20
Loved this book. It’s so hard to find a balance between accurately portraying life in times past and making a story interesting and engaging to modern audiences. I loved Pike’s characters and the choices they made. The narration was perfect and the story was enthralling and triumphant and devastating.
