Historia
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

Just your average tech bro immorality
Revisado: 04-14-25
This tell-all, behind the scenes look at the most pervasive tech monopoly in existence just confirms what we already know… “With great power comes great responsibility.”
I can’t wait to read a book about people living up to that responsibility instead of selling out, compromising on every moral principle, and being utterly careless. Illuminating but depressing.

We all feel it—the distraction, the loss of focus, the addictive focus on the wrong things for too long. We bump into the zombies on their phones in the street, and sometimes they’re us. We stare in pity at the four people at the table in the restaurant, all on their phones, and then we feel the buzz in our pocket. Something has changed utterly: for most of human history, the boundary between public and private has been clear, at least in theory. Now, as Chris Hayes writes, “With the help of a few tech firms, we basically tore it down in about a decade.”

Amazing look into the Attention Trap
Revisado: 03-31-25
I’m already a fan of Chris Hayes, but he truly broke some new ground here. This book was a great breakdown of the challenges facing the U.S. problem with attention grabbing above all else. Thoroughly researched and elegantly relayed, this book is a must read/listen for anyone who cares how their attention is being weaponized against us all.

Historia
In this entertaining and eye-opening book, Eleanor Herman revisits some of the sex scandals that have rocked the nation's capital and shocked the public, while asking the provocative questions: does rampant adultery show a lack of character or the stamina needed to run the country? Or perhaps both? While Americans have judged their leaders' affairs harshly compared to other nations, did they mostly just hate being lied to? And do they now clearly care more about issues other than a politician’s sex life?

Fantastic research & writing about atrocious behavior!!!
Revisado: 01-26-25
This book was absolutely fascinating in that “watching a train wreck” kind of way. Learning the untold history about our U.S. Presidents was both eye opening & damning confirmation of our country’s tolerance for sexual entitlement in the seat of power. I thought the research and evidence was thorough, utilizing love letters and documented first hand accounts, especially for a subject matter that is purposefully covered up.
I highly recommend reading with an eye toward the abuse of power in the (still) single-gendered position of U.S. President. If you intend to keep score based on political party, I think you will miss the point. Overall, loved the book. Entertaining, tragic, and absurd all wrapped up in one.

Sidney Crosby is ready to tell his story in his own words. As one of the greatest NHL players of all time, he reflects on his 2005-06 rookie season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. From a Canadian phenom dubbed “the next Gretzky” to an 18-year-old carrying the burden of a struggling franchise, he talks candidly about the intense pressure he was under, the surreal experience of lacing up alongside his childhood idol Mario Lemieux and the truth about his rivalry with Alex Ovechkin.

Rock god. Justice fighter. Rabble-rouser. Ivy Leaguer. An American renegade and fearless truth teller. Rage Against the Machine’s guitar virtuoso, Tom Morello, is many things; but perhaps, he himself, sums it up best: a one-man revolution. For the first time ever, hear Morello fuse the deeply personal with the political in a rapturous, badass, one-man show that skillfully balances soul-bearing stories with spellbinding guitar fury: Speaking Truth to Power Through Stories and Song by Tom Morello.

Historia
A down-to-earth global pop star. A deeply spiritual, cerebral powerhouse. A famously outspoken introvert. For her millions of fans, and the few unacquainted, defining rock luminary Alanis Morissette is an exercise in dichotomies and nuance. And though her most formidable traits are seemingly at odds with one another, they are, oddly enough, completely emblematic of all of us: complex, conflicting, and, most importantly, ever evolving. With her striking command of language and profound emotional fluency, the 46-year-old covers an enormous amount of personal ground with listeners.

This was brilliant. Alanis Morissette was and continues to be an epic creator of our time. This piece really captures that and lays it out bare, in her own words nonetheless. Can’t say enough. Must listen!

The Decade of Obama (2007-2017) was one of massive change that rewrote the rules of politics in ways we are only now beginning to understand (which is why we all got 2016 wrong). Yes We (Still) Can looks at how Obama navigated the forces that allowed Trump to win the White House to become one of the most consequential presidents in American history, why Trump surprised everyone, and how Democrats can come out on top in the long run.

Revisado: 06-03-20
I fell in love with Dan’s comedic timing, witty phrasing, and political savvy while listening to Pod Save America. His book is an extension of the political discourse we’ve come to know and respect. The book also includes a fair amount of experiences and a great look into his time in the Obama White House. Can’t recommend this enough. The truth is out there and the good fight is worth fighting. On to Dan’s next book :)

The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.

This audiobook/monologue play is absolutely glorious. What a surprise. Blew me away. It was eloquent and ruthless, nuanced and punch-you-in-the-mouth gritty. I really can’t say enough about it. Must listen. So impressive. The commentary by the writer at the end of the piece sealed the deal for me. Well done.
