An unusual and creative Georgian Romance

Jayne Davis has become one of my favorite authors. Her books reflect a good balance of complex personal interactions, suspense, uniqueness of plot, etc. I have read all her books on Kindle, and would love to see more of the Marstone Series recorded on Audible,,,hint, hint...

I found this book to be well written, well plotted, well researched and just plain fun. I bought the second book as soon as I finished this one. I'm looking forward to also reading her reference book, To Marry an English Lord by Carol McD. Wallace and Gail MacColl.

Not Nora Jacobs...

I have really enjoyed the Nora Jacobs series, and am looking forward to number 4. Am not so crazy about this series, unfortunately. The narration is lifeless, and the pitch of action is very different. While the characters are unusual and interesting, I found myself fast forwarding through the chapters without focusing on the action, which is a bit like a shoot-em-up movie with too many adrenaline high action stunts and insufficient plot complexity.

Another wonderful book in the series!

Stella Riley is one of the best authors I read...I look forward to her books coming out on audio, and listen to them multiple times. Elegant language, interesting plots and believable characters. This one is especially meaningful for me due to the musical aspect of the plot and the unique and unusual character of the male lead. I also liked the way she reclaimed a character from a previous book in the series. And, as always, Alex Wyndham is superb! (I am so excited about the Black Madonna being issued on audio! )

Quite enjoyable. Good plotting, interesting protagonists (imperfect and believable), did not figure out who done it until revealed at the denouement!

Not up to standard!

I have many books by Stephanie Laurens and have enjoyed them; this one, however, is not at all up to her usual standards, in either plot or pace. The plot and characters are a rehash of those found in earlier works. I bought this in print first...was not thrilled, but thought it might be better in audio...it wasn't.

"Calling James Braithwaite" by Nicholas Blake and "Blind Man's Bluff" by Ernest Bramah are in the index of the printed version, but no included here! Audible should update its version to include the whole compendium! Otherwise a 5 star all around.

An old favorite reborn in audio

I have loved The Marigold Chain for years. The story is a compelling mix of history and romance, both beautifully languaged and researched. Alex Wyndham performs, as usual, with vocal beauty and grace, bringing the characters vibrantly alive, and adds another dimension of enjoyment to an already wonderful novel.

A really interesting read in an unusual format

What made the experience of listening to A Man of Some Repute the most enjoyable?

The format, spoken from the viewpoint of each character, made it extremely interesting. As an English mystery buff, I have often been able to figure out who done it very early in the book. Here, it was a challenge to figure out what happened, much less who done it. Also the format created a different feel from the more traditional narrative style.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked both Hugo and Georgina...it is hard to pick between. They are both quirky characters in their different ways, and I enjoyed their developing sibling relationship.

Which scene was your favorite?

Didn't have one.

I didn't have an extreme reaction, but enjoyed the wit.
