Mixed bag but good
Revisado: 10-17-24
There are times when it's hard to follow the events. The narration jumps around and there definitely too many names coming in too fast, but the overall content is more then interesting. I'm glad the bulk of it is about George and creation of it, always wanted a deeper insight into the magazine's background, so I'm happy to have it here.
Never knew that Carolyn was so unsufferable, but putting all the details beside this book together it's quite believable.
And I don't understand the naggers about how could a friend air all this: well it's a biography. And it's not about a saint. He was very much human with all the flaws one can imagine and the troubles in his private life everyone can know.
He does seem more naive then one would guess, but the playboy lifestyle and easy street does that to you. There were clear glimpses of potential and dedication in his thirtees, I'm sure he would've matured into a serious politician with the years.
It's a loss.

Historia
From Andre Agassi, one of the most beloved athletes in history and one of the most gifted men ever to step onto a tennis court, a beautiful, haunting autobiography. Agassi brings a near-photographic memory to every pivotal match and every relationship. Never before has the inner game of tennis and the outer game of fame been so precisely limned. In clear, taut prose, Agassi evokes his loyal brother, his wise coach, his gentle trainer, all the people who help him regain his balance and find love at last with Stefanie Graf.

Open and Honest
Revisado: 07-24-24
Inspirational and honest account of a man who went through the ups and downs of life and the sport as well. Very educating and eyeopening stuff. And "open" review and confession of a successful life.

Historia
Niki Lauda drove a car for sport, but crossed the line between life and death and fought back to even greater glory. Even people who know nothing of Formula One have heard of his crash at Nurburgring in 1976, when he was dragged from the inferno of his Ferrari so badly injured he was given the last rites. Within 33 days, he was racing again at Monza. His wounds bled; he had no eyelids. He was terrified. A year later, he reclaimed his World Championship title.

Blunt. To the point. Honest. Just like Niki was.
It might lose you here and there as it moves fast, but at least you won't have to deal with filler moments.

Historia
The year 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Damon Hill's coronation as Formula One world champion. For the first time ever, he tells the story of his journey through the last golden era of the sport, when he took on the greats, including Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, and emerged victorious as world champion in 1996, stepping out of the shadow of his legendary father, Graham Hill.

Absolutely fantastic!
Revisado: 05-30-24
From start to finish I was captivated with his life story, and found a deep, deep respect for a previously much lesser known champion of the sport. The book is incredibly intimate and reveals a unique character and life path for the man himself. Since "Life too short" I wasn't able to enjoy a sport biography this much, and luckily, this has a happy ending. A complete and "rounded" human both within the car and outside of with the ups and downs, failures and successes, the endless struggles taken with the old-school Brit stiff-upper-lip attitude told with incredible honesty and frankness.
It's simply, organically HUMAN. Thank you Damon.

After a few bloated books of the author that I listened to in the past year this was a great positive disappointment.
It resonated greatly.

Good content but bloated
Revisado: 03-25-24
I love Greene's books, but this is not the first where I find myself being bored of the example stories he gives. Specially if you read other books of his, you meet a lot of annectodes you're gonna be familiar with. The content and general messages are spot on and very useful, but about 70% of the book is just storied to underline the main points.
