Historia
‘Oh my goodness - another girl, Mrs Swain!' Clara's normal iron composure broke, and she screamed, ‘No! That's not the bloody deal!' And that was how my nanna, Bertha Swain, entered the world. When Helen Batten's marriage breaks down, she starts on a journey of discovery into her family's past and the mysteries surrounding her enigmatic nanna's early life. What she unearths is a tale of five feisty redheads struggling to climb out of poverty and find love through two world wars.

I usually don't rate books. I tried with deep hope to like this story, to wait for the plot to thicken with some hook to keep my interest; complete failure. Hours of my life I will never get back!

Millions of Karon fans will be thrilled that it's life as usual in the wildly popular Mitford series: A beloved town character lands a front-page obituary, but who was it, exactly, who died? And what about the former mayor, born the year Lindbergh landed in Paris, who's still running for office? All this, of course, is but a feather on the wind compared to Muse editor J. C. Hogan's desperate attempts to find a cure for his marital woes. Will it be high-def TV or his pork chop marinade?

Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

predictable, rambling
Revisado: 01-02-17
Alex started out well. Sharp, caustic, paranoid, clever. She quickly over came that. Kevin is too brash and loud to have lived as long as he has. Daniel should have died by chapter 10. By the time they all got to DC, I was hoping everyone world die except the dog. There were some very good moments ruined by long and tedious love scenes that only served to make you think that Alex had been inhaling her chemicals for too long. Just couldn't do it any further.

On a sweltering summer afternoon, newspaper tycoon Richard Jewell—known to his many enemies as Diamond Dick—is discovered with his head blown off by a shotgun blast. But is it suicide or murder? For help with the investigation, Detective Inspector Hackett calls in his old friend Quirke, who has unusual access to Dublin's elite. Jewell's coolly elegant French wife, Françoise, seems less than shocked by her husband's death. But Dannie, Jewell's high-strung sister, is devastated, and Quirke is surprised to learn that in her grief she has turned to an unexpected friend.

Historia
The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner. Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate.

Could have been better
Revisado: 04-24-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
At the beginning, the author infers that the profiler "hears the dead". That is pretty much the last time that theme comes up. The line is never explored. What follows is chapter after chapter of angst, stupidity and self pity on the part of the main character. Honestly, I was hoping that her stalkers would soon catch and kill her so the book would end.
What was most disappointing about P. M. Steffen’s story?
That the main character was so immensely wrapped up in herself.
What three words best describe Gabrielle de Cuir’s performance?
The best part.
What character would you cut from The Profiler's Daughter?
Almost everyone. Axlerod might stay.

Really good book.
Revisado: 07-03-13
What did you love best about If You Find Me?
The premise of the story was very interesting. A person often reads about a mother and children who go missing and presume they are either dead or hiding from the violent father/husband. This book makes you rethink this.
What did you like best about this story?
The way that the oldest daughter fought to keep her sister safe.
Which character – as performed by Tai Sammons – was your favorite?
The oldest daughter.
