Characters were wonderfully defined by reader; great work on the different voices and accents. This book was just fun and enjoyable, making me laugh out loud. I didn’t want it to end.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Reminds me of Hunger Games
Revisado: 11-03-23
I’m feeling a bit as though this is almost a young adult book but it didn’t prevent me from finding it riveting. There are some very steamy kissing scenes (and more—-I didn’t know a kiss could be like that) that add to the romantic story line. Great, surprising conclusion. I’ve already ordered the next book

Yay Stephen!
Revisado: 10-13-23
Well, it was a bit gory but his explanation at the end was so true. There is deep evil everywhere (just read the internet news—-brrr). Personally, I am in accordance with Mr. King’s political views BUT a listener/reader should be able to get past that. COVID was real and haters are haters. Will Patton, btw, would be absurd narrating a female driven work. Love Holly, Barbara and Jerome

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Amazing story
Revisado: 08-18-23
Loved the author’s reading of his work, almost poetic. I also read the book at the end when my copy came up at the library. I liked seeing some of the words in print. No synopsis from me (easily obtained elsewhere) but the story and it’s characters are so very real and made me see India of the last century and some of the problems faced by individuals. Great book!!

I began reading this as a book, but segued to the audiobook; both are so very enjoyable, I cannot say enough good things. The reader does a superlative job with all of the roles (and there are many). The book itself makes me want to read more Kate Atkinson (Life After Life) was fabulous!

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

I loved this book! Liked it so much after listening to my library audiobook that I elected to buy it for my permanent library. The characters are so interesting and fascinating; I particularly enjoyed being reminded of how professional women were treated in the not so distant past. I also cried a lot. The reader is perfect!

Poor narrator
Revisado: 08-23-21
Plot was, as usual, interesting and a bit macabre so that was great! I have several Pendergast books in my audible library and this one is going BACK! I will never listen to it again. William DeMeritt is not capable of performing a woman’s voice; he made Constance sound like a cranky old shrew and we all know that is not true! Jefferson Mays was a reasonable replacement for the irreplaceable Rene Auberjonais; can we get him back???

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Really enjoyed this as an audible. I cannot imagine reading it in print. Ray Porter did a wonderful job with the “voices”—-I don’t want to give away any spoilers! I enjoyed The Martian also. The author has an impressive knowledge in the science and engineering department.
