Lots of repetition
Revisado: 04-06-18
It’s a light yarn if you’re looking for something that doesn’t take a lot of concentration. The beginning is hard to get through with details repeated almost within the same paragraph and the ending feels abrupt. Narrator isn’t bad; there are times the intonation seems wrong but otherwise they aren’t distracting.

Fantastic interweaving many journies
Revisado: 11-16-17
These characters make it easy to want to follow along the many paths they take. It's a very well-written series; not too meandering for this kind of epic tale. Reynolds' narration is the best kind, where you don't notice the reader and you're sucked into the story.
Would love to see a book from this author on the Pickerings' family!

Hardingham and West do it again!
Revisado: 10-17-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Steve West and Fiona Hardingham make an excellent pair - they're fantastic with The Scorpio Races and I'd listen to them read anything.
What did you like best about this story?
It's not set in stone as a romance from the get-go. These are characters in a tough situation and they struggle.
What about Fiona Hardingham and Steve West ’s performance did you like?
They bring a depth to the characters and a liveliness to the story without it being forced or tiring. The pace is good, not too fast to be unintelligible, or so slow that it drags.

Beautiful atmosphere, as ever
Revisado: 11-02-13
Any additional comments?
If you've read the author's novel, Crescent, you won't be disappointed; the atmosphere and food descriptions are as decadent and surrounding as before. It didn't suck me in right away but I was glad I stuck with it, the story gathers momentum, Avis, Brian, Felice, and Stanley's POVs twining together tighter and tighter, like hurricanes do. There are some difficult moments, of course, but they're done with careful treatment. I sped up the narration a few times, the narration getting a little too languorous, like the Miami heat was weighing down the pacing. Probably not for listening to with younger kids, there's some coarse language appropriate to the situations.
