Who Drew You? Were you drawn by the Father to His Son, as reflected in the historical context of John 6:44? “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” Or, were you drawn by Jesus to Himself after He was raised up, as reflected in the context recorded for us in John 12:32? ”And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” Due to relatively modern debates over man-made westernized theological constructs, the two drawings recorded for us above are often conflated to be one and the same, but does that ...

Better Than Expected
Revisado: 05-16-24
I am naturally skeptical of how much can be garnered from a book that is posited merely as a rebuttal to another, but this title delivers as an excellent look into how the Bible supports God's goodness, love, and provision for all mankind to have the opportunity of salvation. (Virtual Voice narration isn't great, but it's still worth it.

The last chapter is the lynch bin of the book
Revisado: 04-12-24
God has given all of us life experiences to incorporate into our presentation of the gospel message. The art of asking questions is by far the most practical way of transmitting this gift to our brothers in creation (all have God's image) And all must come to own the salvation of God for themselves. This book is a very practical way for those of us in Christ to point those who are not to finally meet Him.

Historia
In the wake of a devastating attack, an amnesty has been declared for all Augurs - finally allowing them to emerge from hiding and openly oppose the dark forces massing against the land of Andarra. As the Augur Davian and his new allies hurry north toward the ever-weakening Boundary, however, fresh horrors along their path suggest that their reprieve may have come far too late. His ally in the Capital, the new Northwarden, contends with assassins and politicians and uncovers a dangerous political secret.

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack - who has already killed Bod's family…

Tragically overrated
Revisado: 12-31-22
Interesting idea that meanders out into a pointless nothing by the end. Hearing Gaiman's process at the end, it's no wonder. I can't honestly recommend something that could only be considered masterful in a sad and pathetic postmodern world.

Historia
This classic novel by the brilliant G. K. Chesterton tells the rollicking tale of Innocent Smith, a man who may be crazy - or possibly the most sane man of all. Arriving at a dreary London boarding house accompanied by a windstorm, Smith is an exuberant, eccentric, and sweet-natured man. Smith has a positive effect on the house - he creates his own court, brings a few couples together, and falls in love with a paid companion next door. All seems to be well with the world.

I have never seen this extent of a narrator massacring a good story. Sadly, I just can't recommend despite loving Chesterton's fiction.

Historia
Institutes of the Christian Religion is John Calvin's seminal work on Protestant systematic theology. Highly influential in the Western world and still widely read by theological students today, it was published in Latin in 1536 and in his native French in 1541. The book serves as an introductory textbook on the Protestant faith for those with some previous knowledge of theology and covers a broad range of theological topics from the doctrines of church and sacraments to justification by faith alone and Christian liberty.

The Champion of all the Heresiarchs
Revisado: 10-11-22
Far too many are swayed by a haughty intellectualism paired with the illusion of objective analysis. If you're going to make this kind of time investment, read the Bible and seek after its author instead. I have always given Calvin the benefit of the doubt, assuming that his theology was at least mildly misrepresented by his adherents. Now, having gone through this Bible-length volume with as much receptivity as possible, I must side with Chesterton and place him amongst the rest of the heretics. He may not be personally damned, but his teaching is just as dangerous and foolhardy as the deterministic materialists of our secular age.
If you believe that Christ only died for an arbitrarily selected few rather than everyone, God have mercy on you. Though, as you would also believe that one can only believe or do what God makes them, I suppose the sentiment is moot. (These are not my only objections, but to elaborate on them all would take more time than is worth to read or write.)

Historia
Evan MacIan is a tall, dark-haired, blue-eyed Scottish Highlander and a devout Roman Catholic. James Turnbull is a short, red-haired, gray-eyed Lowlander and a devout but naïve atheist. The two meet when MacIan smashes the window of the street office where Turnbull publishes an atheist journal. This act of rage occurs when MacIan sees posted on the shop's window a sheet that blasphemes the Virgin Mary, presumably implying she was an adulteress who gave birth to an illegitimate Jesus.

Most Remarkable Prophecy of the Previous Century
Revisado: 03-16-22
If The Everlasting Man was Chesterton getting the drop on all of modern apologetics. This is him outdoing Orwell before the poor sap was even able to hold a pen. If you want a story that looks into the effect of a world that is overcome by the spirit of the age, this is your stop. Some things are, in fact, worth fighting for.

And what had a dying woman confided to the priest on her deathbed only hours earlier? Mark Easterbrook and his sidekick, Ginger Corrigan, are determined to find out. All religions and worldviews seek to answer the fundamental questions of human existence: Why am I here? What does it mean to be human? Why is there evil in the world, and how do we deal with it? But not every worldview places equal emphasis on each issue. The main worldviews each tend to stress a different central question.
