Historia
Dalinar Kholin challenged the evil god Odium to a contest of champions with the future of Roshar on the line. The Knights Radiant have only ten days to prepare—and the sudden ascension of the crafty and ruthless Taravangian to take Odium’s place has thrown everything into disarray. Desperate fighting continues simultaneously worldwide—Adolin in Azir, Sigzil and Venli at the Shattered Plains, and Jasnah in Thaylenah. The former assassin, Szeth, must cleanse his homeland of Shinovar from the dark influence of the Unmade.

Did not finish
Revisado: 01-31-25
Sanderson has lost his way. This book needed month of further edits, but instead he substituted modernist tropes for compelling storytelling.
The voice work was still excellent, I feel sorry for the readers who lent then talent to this.

Historia
As a Hillary voter, a New York Times reporter, and frequent attendee at her local gay bars, Nellie Bowles fit right in with her San Francisco neighbors and friends—until she started questioning whether the progressive movement she knew and loved was actually helping people. When her colleagues suggested that asking such questions meant she was “on the wrong side of history,” Bowles did what any reporter worth her salt would do: she started investigating for herself. The answers she found were stranger—and funnier—than she expected.

She almost gets it
Revisado: 05-23-24
I liked her earnest and detailed storytelling. She’s a very engaging and entertaining writer and narrator.
I feel bad for Nellie in how she wants only so much revolution as suits her Overton window, but does not realize that once you eschew the Judeo-Christian foundations of the West, you inevitably end up in the dark places she catalogs.
It is good that she sees them as dark, but is she ready to step into the light?

Different, but still amazing!
Revisado: 05-27-21
I think that Stuart Gibbs added a lot of themes that were very different from his usual style, but over all, Stuart Gibbs' outstanding story is truly a good read.

Lying

Historia
As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

A good primer on honesty
Revisado: 03-08-21
Harris does a great job showing the problems caused by lying, but he can’t help but go after religious belief, which made me sad for him.
After listening to this, check out After Virtue by Alasdair MacIntyre for a more complete and rich understanding of what happens when we abandon classical virtues but still use the terms in an empty way.
