I really like the idea of where the story was going. I like the premise of the story but it wasn't to me executed very well. it was a bit confusing and hard to follow in the beginning. However. in the end I just didn't think it reached the potential it could have because of the plot was really good but the telling wasn't that great. All of the performers were amazing of course. so great narration but just an okay story unfortunately because it could have been a great story. Maybe it needed to be flushed out into a full novel and maybe that would have been better.

The Most Beautiful LOVE Story Ever Told!!

This book restored my faith in quantum physics, which I believe is the real identity of God. This is not just one of the best books of Koontz but one of the best I have read. The last book I read by Koontz was Tik Tok, which I did NOT like and could not finish. But I LOVE this one!! To me, this is more than just a story, but a confirmation of what I already know. I work in hospice so death and pain is what I experience daily. Yet this story is not just about death but about life and the hope of life. I love this book so much that I have added it to my physical library. It was so ethereal that my daughter, without knowing that I was reading this posted a note on her page: “How can you move forward if you're still living in the past?”

This is a beautiful story. So beautiful. I loved the continuation into the future of all of the characters still alive. I love it when stories do this. It gives you the future of the characters. This story I am sure will be in my consciousness forever. Do I recommend this? Absolutely, without question. This story had me go and listen to the song “Die With a Smile” by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. I know but it’s true. This has got to be one of the best love stories ever told. Love on every level.

STARTS SLOW BUT ENDS GREAT

The pacing in this book if not great in the first half. The whole haunting piece of the story became really repetitive. BUT after about half way through when you start getting to the climax build it picks up so much better. We started to get a back story of why the haunting was happening and that helped quite a bit. It began to turn into more of an action based novel and got a lot more interesting. When I first started reading I was thinking this is going to be an Amityville Horror knock off story. But then again a lot of haunting stories about a house and family falls into that category. But these characters were interesting to me from the parents to the each of the kids. I thought they were well developed and they had their own personalities and depths.

I actually would enjoy watching this as a movie or limited tv-series. It's pretty entertaining. So I would definitely recommend.

This was an amazing story! Finally something Thrilling and Intriguing! Like Stephen King says "It gives you the GOTTA!" I gotta know what happens! The twists and turns were deliciously well thought out and dare I say - funny! The acting/narrations were superb! I thoroughly enjoyed this! I already knew I would love it or at least find it entertaining because John Lithgow is one of my most favorite actors. You can throw him ANY character and he becomes it!! This is truly an all star cast! I'm secretly in love with Aldis Hodge! So I just pictured him being on stage looking sexy! I highly recommend this and the ending of the who-dun-it led me through alleyways and when I was close the path veered in another direction. I almost didn't listen because sometimes when the story has to do with actors it is usually flimsy at best but I said no, you got James Patterson and John Lithgow, how can I go wrong? It did not disappoint! Check it out . You won't regret it!!

I actually enjoyed this and the whole premise. I thought it was leading up to a different type of ending but the ending that it did have was pretty good though more predictable and one I've read before in other similar stories. But it was an enjoyable read, the narrators were all really good. I believe it is worth the listen for sure.

First off the narrator was fantastic for these characters!

This is kind of a Mildred Pierce-esque type of story. Mother/Daughter love rivalry with crazy plot twists. But this is a 1990's Old School Lifetime Movie DRAAAMMAAAA! So if you are into those types of stories you will love this. I have to agree with the other reviewers: The character of the daughter is insanely annoying!! There are soooo many times in this story I wanted to pull out my motherly belt, give her a spanking, and send her to her room for the duration!! When the mother's voice came back into the story I was relieved and was like - shut up kid, grown ups are talking! Yet even with all of that her character was written appropriately for her age and situation but still. So kudos to the writer for keeping her consistent.

The daughter did make me roll my eyes a lot but I loved this story. I would love a continuing novel that turned into an actual haunting because there is enough history on this land to warrant one. I identified with the character of the mother for sure. However, having raised a daughter myself, I would not have been so clingy but I do understand the choices the mother makes.

Do I recommend? YES! Especially if you like love, mystery, drama or old Lifetime movie plotlines. Which I do.

Narrator Fantastic!! Story well....

The narrator style seemed to be hit or miss for most reviewers. For me I thought Delanie was excellent. Not everyone can do a child's voice and inflection. I thought that they would switch between characters more often whereas the mother would do a chapter, the father, and was even looking forward to the dark entity having a voice from its perspective but it just stayed with the young child which was fine once I got used to it.

The mother was really an annoying character and just when you thought there was something redeeming about her she switches back to her normal aggravating personality which made me wish she had just ran away and left the child with the father and grandmother.

The story was creepy I will give it that for sure however there was no real climax. Towards the end I was like ok just give us the twist already!! But there was none. It just keeps going until it ended. Which was VERY disappointing because it felt like it was building up to a great finish but nope. The ending to me made the entire story pointless. They could have ended it in the first couple of chapters.

Overall it was a good read and before I knew the ending disqualifies everything I really enjoyed it. I was intrigued by the mystery of what this entity was. I knew it wasn't a ghost. I had thought an alien maybe? But there was no real closure or wrap up of what was happening. I would have settled for an information epilogue. But alas....

Would I recommend it? I suppose. It kind of reminded me of the TV series "Lost" in the way it was told and the ending of that series really pissed me off so it's kind of like that.

What did Stephen King say? The only thing that matters is the ending. - I would have to agree.

Would Have Been Better as a Fiction

This would have been better as fiction. In a fiction the protagonist could have actually killed people instead of the repetitive “Why am I a sociopathic anti-superhero?” it got kind of annoying in places. Though I was interested in the memoir. I liked thinking about sociopathy. I did like her take on her story. It read like a young adult fictional tale instead of a biography. One of the main things that turned me off was the fact that she did not seem to grow. It’s like she remained the 10-year-old girl on the cover for the entire length of the memoir, which is ridiculous, but she read it like a whiney bratty pre-teen throughout.

After saying all of that I did enjoy this. I made it through. And I do not regret the read. So, if you are interested in sociopathy then this will be an interesting read for you. However, if you want to know more about CLINICAL psychology then this is not the book for you. This is HER story about HER LIFE and feelings. I did have to stop and remind myself of that as I was reading. So I recommend it on those terms above.

This was an interesting read with good performances. However, in the genre of "who don its" it was easy to figure out who was the least likely person, meaning the actual killer, so that wasn't good. Overall I'm not mad about reading it. The characters were pretty interesting. The ending twist was good. I recommend it especially if you need a pallet cleanser between more serious and darker mystery thrillers.

ROMANTIC AND SMART!

This was a well put together story. It gave you the right amount of romantic storyline yet that was not the focus. I learned a lot about autism and a child living on the spectrum. I thought the storyline of a single mother trying to better her life as best she could alone was done very well especially that she was trying to break into the tech world. I loved the addition of the elderly lady living next door to help out instead of it being a "comedy relief" sassy mouth best friend guiding her, as they usually try to throw in there. This way you can focus on the plot line. Some things were predictable but I loved the journey anyway. It wasn't over the top and the actors were great! The only time I grunted is when the father of her child came around (triggers)!! LOL!!! Now why couldn't I meet a Troy after the loser Efrons in my life?? (sigh)

This was a great read of good vibes. It left me wanting more, or at least more from this author. Highly recommend.

Oh and I LOVED the MUSIC!!!!!! Very nice!
