The narrator has such an annoying voice, I gave up listening about 30 min in. The book itself is fine, and worth reading.

Starts Off Well, and That's About It

This book starts off with some interesting stories, then launches into a non-ending complaint about politics. That's unhelpful, depressing, and makes people lose hope. There's nothing I can do about elected officials, but there's a lot I can personally do to help the environment. I find the podcast similar to the book - I subscribe to the podcast for the few amazing episodes about the success stories, and delete the other 90% of episodes because I'm not interested in listening to people complain about politics.

Painfully Read

I’ve read this book before, and loved it. Despite investing a couple hours into listening to this audiobook, I gave up due to the narrator. If the reading requires accents, hire a narrator who can do them. I couldn’t take bad regional accents any longer. Skip the audiobook and read the actual book.

Extremely Dated Material

The book preface is painful. The author spent what felt like an hour complaining about the Bell Curve book and his petty feud with the authors. My patience was worn thin during the preface. Once I got to the actual book and the content felt equally dated and whiny, I gave up.

It’s a shame: Stephen Jay Gould’s books are normally good.

Please make a movie

I loved this book so much, i listened to it back-to-back. It's in-Thrawn-ing (sorry, it had to be said). Thrawn is this fascinating Vulcan-Klingon-Alexander the Great fusion. I also loved the book telling a story from the Empire's perspective. Different than expected, and completely riveting.

Makes me want to downgrade some of my other 5-star reviews to reserve 5-star ratings for books I enjoy as much as this one.

This book states the obvious

This book is primarily a series of anecdotes. While entertaining for the first 30-45 min, it gets tedious after that. The book also states the obvious things that make good vs bad bosses. I stopped listening to the book because I wasn't learning anything new. Take a pass on this book; there's better reading (listening) available.

Narrator makes this impossible to listen to

Great story, weak performance

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I love the Belgariad, and have read the books countless times. While this audiobook is still good, the reader is painful to hear at times. He can't stick to a single voice for any of the characters and breaks into weird British accents at time. He seemed to be trying to do a Sean Connery impression for Belgarath for a chapter.
