Historia
Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead. Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it. When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

So many false leads pursued..,
Revisado: 01-13-25
Sometimes it felt so lighthearted with all the teas and the cakes consumed. Yet the logic pursued was quite real, and overall everything was quite engaging.

Historia
Music is one of humanity’s oldest medicines. From the Far East to the Ottoman Empire, Europe to Africa and the pre-colonial Americas, many cultures have developed their own rich traditions for using sound and rhythm to ease suffering, promote healing, and calm the mind. In his latest work, neuroscientist and New York Times best-selling author Daniel J. Levitin (This Is Your Brain on Music) explores the curative powers of music, showing us how and why it is one of the most potent therapies today.

Enjoyed this a lot. A collection of many themes I’ve read short news items on. Wonderful to see it all in one place and elucidated so fully.

I loved learning how the citizens of niece survived the Nazi occupation. I loved seeing how a privileged NYU professor retiree could resonate with the challenged background of his grand nephew. I was delighted to enjoy the learning about a different city in different culture with the two of them in Nice

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Historia
During the course of his life, Malachy McCourt practically invented the singles bar and was a pioneer in talk radio, a soap opera star, a best-selling author, a gold smuggler, a political activist, and a candidate for governor of the state of New York. It seems that the only two things he hasn't done are stick his head into a lion's mouth and die. Since he is allergic to cats, he decided to write about the great hereafter and answer the question on most minds: What's so great about it anyhow?

Chemistry n characters, biology n biographies
Revisado: 05-22-23
Includes geological evolution, human and planetary evolution. Great summaries of latest thinking on all things science plus the story arc of those who brought these facts to light. I read it in small gulps at bed time. I doubt I could swallow it all like a 3-night detective story.
