plot: hallmark christmas movie but with lesbians.
plot execution: mediocre at best, unbelievable character building and logical leaps, along with some unnecessary twists
narration: perfection, but could use some editing for slip ups. the added voice effects are neat too
final thoughts: its a perfectly sweet forgetable story, and I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you're truly desperate for a sapphic christmas story. most importantly: buy, don't waste a credit.

I got to chapter 27 and just felt like the story was dragging on. the first book was good, but this one was just more of the same. I can't recommend it.

This is the best book I've listened to of 2022, I can't stress how well rounded this book is and how much kudos the auther and narrator deserve. Five stars isn't enough to give for this title.

watch 1992 "Dracula" first

while it's not a direct sequel for legal reasons, I think we all know where Kaplan pulls her characters from. I can't say I've ever ran into Kaplan's work that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. and this is one of them. it starts a bit wonky, but quickly fleshes out into a lovely read, with a very nice conclusion.
my only complaint is that you can tell it was written in 2015, as the idioms, fad words, current events, and film references from that time are all present here. they're a fun snapshot, but the book quickly dates itself because of that.

it started out okay, but then...

the storybstarted out alright. The author's prose is probably the most irritating thing about the entire book, it's all written in present tense. I enjoyed the romance between the two characters but maaaaaan after about chapter 35ish I completely lost interest in any of their plotlines and just wanted it to be over. I can see where the author wanted to leave openings for the sequel, but we really didn't need that kind of exposition.

simply wonderful!

I can't recommend this book enough, the story was definitely a slow burn, but well worth the buuld up. Each character did plenty of growing and truly fleshed out. the world was fun and exciting, we saw plenty of new places and got enough backstory on each for it not to feel forced. The sex scenes were well done and didn't get corny.
The Narration was spectacular! I can't get over the audio gold that I just heard for over 20 hours. if you have a credit, or the cash, get this story!

very cliché

The novel was filled with too many clichés, from space pirates in 17th century garb to rushed romances, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone not looking for a cheap short story. The narrator was the only thing keeping the bland dialogue alive and made the story tolerable.

It was a decent story, the characters seemed a bit flat to me though, everyone even the MC seemed only driven by their fear of being branded a coward. The whole "mystery" was pretty easy to guess by about 1/4 way through. I wouldn't put this on my "recommend to others" list, but it's not on the "worst stories I've ever read" list either. "Skyward" hits in the middle, I'm intrigued enough to read the second one, though, which is what kept my rating at 3 stars rather than 2.
