Historia
Technofeudalism says Yanis Varoufakis, is the new power that is reshaping our lives and the world, and is the greatest current threat to the liberal individual, to our efforts to avert climate catastrophe—and to democracy itself. It also lies behind the new geopolitical tensions, especially the New Cold War between the United States and China. Drawing on stories from Greek myth and pop culture, from Homer to Mad Men, Varoufakis explains this revolutionary transformation: how it enslaves our minds, how it rewrites the rules of global power, and, ultimately, what it will take overthrow it.

Brilliant summation of the check vice grip on our lives
Revisado: 04-26-25
He absolutely nailed the problem. Bill is an amazing case for it gives a background in the history and he’s actually got some amazing suggestions on how we can overcome it. Problem is it’s a monumental effort to do it. However, maybe people will be motivated now with the rise of fascist type government in the United States. And the support it has with all the technology oligarch since Silicon Valley.

Idea lost on me
Revisado: 06-04-24
For a romance novel, it initially had a great premise and plot. But I found the h’s approach dealing with life implausible. One hand she married a successful lawyer who wanted more children and her being a trad wife to him rather than a career woman. She insisted as a feminist approach for a career and carving out her own life. Then she’s dismayed, shocked when he leaves her for a younger woman who can give him a baby. Continuing on as a great feminist, she starts up a quickie love affair with the leader of a boy band, and ends up having a great awakening and flowering of love in herself. Surprise! Somehow a 20 year age difference is something to be ashamed of, to hide to the undoing of them all. I can’t help but assume that had she been upfront with her daughter her ex-husband her business partner in the art gallery the things would’ve actually gone much smoother. But that wouldn’t have further the plot. That she was so incredibly stupid repeatedly in public situations, allowing him to take physical liberties on a boat, in restaurant after restaurant in hallways and street corners. The one exception being there’s cameras in an elevator well duh there were cameras everywhere. So much of the public attention they brought on themselves in their behavior, And in the end, she tried to act like the adult in the room by ending love affair when she should’ve been doing that all along. I think would have preferred her making a choice that was positive for her life and those she loved. And the author could’ve addressed the issue of May December romance with an older woman head on a in positive way. Ultimately, she’s left a generation of young women readers with the notion that they can’t love a younger man and have a life with him. But he could with her. And we’re still left with the stigma placed on older women calling them MILFs, cougars and other epithets.

Historia
Veterinarian Marie Lehr knows unrequited love all too well after pining for her best friend, only to watch him marry another woman. It's a mistake she will never make again, especially not when she can practically hear the clock ticking on her childbearing years. The trouble is, she can't seem to find anyone who appeals to her even a fraction as much as that burly bush pilot did. Competitive musher Tyler Brady certainly doesn't, especially not after the heated altercation with the handsome but arrogant, spiteful man. Or so she thinks.

I loved the whole series. Not steamy but a toasty romance. The Christmas novella was adorable and a relatabke family Holiday celebration.

This is a four book series don’t bother with the fifth book. If you’re looking for a fun, muddy, spicy adventurous romp the develop some really interesting characters and locals. This set of books is for you, Stretch from Pennsylvania to Alaska to New York to France with excellent character development great sexual descriptions and a fun romp. They just got better with book. I highly recommend the series. I do not recommend book 5 called I to own you or I own you…… don’t bother. It drags and it’s not spicy. it’s boring, it should’ve been written as a epilogue to book 4 instead.

Is it possible to be a Louise Penny addict? I think so. This isn’t a detective series it’s about a fellowship of 3 pines. . At this point, I think I’m an unofficial member of that little community and their lives.

Historia
Follow the journey of Horace Holly and his ward, Leo Vincey, to a lost kingdom in the African interior. There they encounter a primitive race of natives and a mysterious white queen named Ayesha who reigns as the all-powerful "She", or "She-who-must-be-obeyed". In this work, Rider Haggard developed the conventions of the Lost World subgenre, which many later authors emulated.

Quite a yarn
Revisado: 06-06-23
Even though on audible, the reader was really terrible and uninspiring to the imagination, this vivid book captured my attention. For one written, so long ago with no predecessors it’s truly impressive. Compelling plot, and storyline. Totally bizarre characters. An almost believable fantasy. If you want to be transported back to the days of Flash Gordon and Tarzan, read this book.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

One persons, interesting perspective
Revisado: 06-06-23
The author certainly glossed over or omitted a lot of things that didn’t fit with his hypothesis in any given chapter, and he obviously doesn’t have any kind of spiritual practice. If he hast to ask what gives a Sapien meaning in life. Love, compassion, equanimity, and kindness. were not part of his equation.

Mark Arax is from a family of Central Valley farmers, a writer with deep ties to the land who has watched the battles over water intensify even as California lurches from drought to flood and back again. In The Dreamt Land, he travels the state to explore the one-of-a-kind distribution system, built in the 1940s, '50s and '60s, that is straining to keep up with California's relentless growth. The Dreamt Land weaves reportage, history and memoir to confront the "Golden State" myth in riveting fashion.

Wonderful and Depressing
Revisado: 05-10-23
I have lived in California, all my life, 60 years. I’ve come to love it as a state of mind, as well as a state of place. I’ve known little of the history after the early missionaries, especially of agriculture, early speculators and settlers. This book was an eye-opener. I learned a lot, but came away sad for my children and grandchildren at the state of the state that they are inheriting with climate change. And then I went to the natural resources defense fund and made a donation. That’s the group that beat Pat Brown finally even though it took years and restored water to the rivers for the chinook salmon. Thank you Mark for a wonderful read.

Historia
James A. Michener's masterly chronicle of South Africa is an epic tale of adventurers, scoundrels, and ministers, the best and worst of two continents, who carve an empire out of a vast wilderness. From the Java-born Van Doorn family tree springs two great branches: one nurtures lush vineyards, the other settles the interior to become the first Trekboers and Afrikaners.

Disappointed delivery
Revisado: 04-18-20
It appears that this book was narrated by audible in the early days of the company when it was mainly tool for the deaf and disabled. The narrator puts absolutely no life into the rendition of the story. He speaking is flat, dull, and professorial. This wasn’t one of Mitchner’s liveliest books especially waiting through a lot of stuff in the beginning but it wasn’t helped by the narration at all.
