Historia
At age twenty-two, Nadine married Jordan Belfort, the nefarious stockbroker portrayed in the Hollywood blockbuster The Wolf of Wall Street. Their marriage began as a fairy tale, but once they were bonded, Jordan’s “mask” began to slip, and acts of infidelity, narcissistic abuse, insatiable greed, and uncontrollable drug addiction became Nadine’s nightmare. The horrific relationship gave Nadine the inspiration to become a psychotherapist specializing in narcissistic abuse, trauma bonds, and complex PTSD.

Great coverage of Narcissistic abuse by a survivor.
Revisado: 12-21-24
Solid review of Narcissistic abuse, trauma bonding, CPTSD, dark triad, types of abuse etc.
I wish for the audible version, that it was read by a pro. I get that some authors feel they want to be the one to read their words, it doesn’t always work. It sounded very flat, like someone was reading. When done properly there are pauses, and inflections on words that make it sound more dynamic like the author is speaking to you. This reading sounded like she was reading.
Additionally, even if she chose to do the reading, it needs an editor desperately to cut the parts where she repeats herself. It’s almost as if she realized she needed to redo a sentence so she reads it a second time. At first I thought it was me and that I had accidentally hit the replay button. But it happened several times.
It is still a great book that covers this difficult topic and written very well.

Hunger is emotional, hunger is spiritual, and hunger is universal. Overweight or not, our relationship with food is symbolic of our relationship with ourselves, and our hunger for food is symbolic of a deeper hunger that seeks to be understood. We are hungry for connection, for belonging, for understanding and for meaning.

The most well rounded book on the psychology of food I have ever read in my life
Revisado: 07-12-24
First of all, I love it when the author narrates their own book. It doesn’t always work of course but in this case it was perfect. Her voice is both soothing and smart. The words she chooses with every example really hit deep — and her masterful articulation of every complex thought is broken down so poignantly that it feels like you are in her living room and she is just telling you stories. I am in awe of how intelligent, empathic, and kind this book is. Not only did she make me see my relationship with food differently in various phases of my life, but perhaps more importantly she did it all with the grace of a seasoned professional — and in so doing reminded me the importance of having some compassion and grace for myself as well.
This book is truly a gem. I highly recommend it. You will honestly want to be her friend after reading it because there is so much raw vulnerability throughout the book that you can’t help but root for her, for her patients, for her father, and yourself.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

A Must Read!!!
Revisado: 05-28-22
To say that Ms. Viola Davis’s memoir is an inspiration would be a complete understatement.
This is book is so much more than just a triumph over adversity. It is a story filled with a woman’s need to find herself, her purpose, and her destiny. It’s the extraordinary story of life well lived, and a dynamic will to survive despite seemingly insurmountable odds.
Thank you Ms. Davis for teaching us that love, true love, begins with one’s self. I send both you and your 8 year-old you, a much deserving hug.
Until we meet in person one day….
Thank you

Historia
Divorce Court star Judge Lynn Toler shares her mother's wisdom for learning to conquer anger and become immune to insult. Toler credits her mother's "rules" for life - a life that saw her grow up the daughter of a poor teen mother and endure a husband who suffered mental illness and alcoholism - with providing the grounding for her own success and happiness. Toler shows how the mindset of "a black woman who knew how to make things work" taught her the power of knowing how to manage one's emotional business - lessons that this book offers in wrenching stories....

Excellent book by a total badass!
Revisado: 12-04-20
Thank you Evy, for writing this extraordinary book while also caring for your father before he passed. You showed us what courage looks like while simultaneously balancing that with your own genuine moments of vulnerability. I have told every cousin and girlfriend about this book.
I hope to meet you one day and get to shake your hand and personally thank you for, for how much your book has inspired me.
On a side note, how refreshing to learn that you have found and married your husband -- an equally strong man who embraced your fire and strength.
I really identified with your Greek upbringing, even as a 47 year-old Persian single mom of 2 young boys. I face my fears, every damn day. Here's to strength, courage, empathy, compassion, generosity, and self-awareness of one's self worth.
Your book will definitely be in my pick-me up arsenal on my way to becoming bulletproof.
I would love to interview you and help promote your book on my channel or podcast.
You Rock!

Historia
Why do only a few people get to say "I love my job?" It seems unfair that finding fulfillment at work is like winning a lottery; that only a few lucky ones get to feel valued by their organizations, to feel like they belong. Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled. This is not a crazy, idealized notion. Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders are creating environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things.

Excellent book on leadership!
Revisado: 06-26-19
This book reminded me of my dad's leadership style and how he cared for his people. To this day, despite his retirement from his company, they still call to check in with him from time to time and call him on the holidays.
He is a deeply empathic man who believed that if you care about your people you will earn their support and loyalty. Their commitment to you their leader and eachother will steadily improve the bottom line.
This book gives magnificent insight into why some teams make it and some don't by bringing forth examples from the Navy seals, the baby boom generation, government policy, and a shift from human interaction to social isolation.
Brilliantly told demonstrative stories drive home his point.
This should be a "Must read" for every leader and should be required in all MBA programs.
