Author take a lot of creative liberties
Revisado: 09-01-21
The author takes so much creative interpretation that the biography reads more like fiction than history most of the time.

Historia
To protect his ward Ciri, Geralt of Rivia sends her to train with the sorceress Yennefer. But all is not well within the Wizard's Guild in the second novel of the Witcher, Andrzej Sapkowski's groundbreaking epic fantasy series that inspired the hit Netflix show and the blockbuster video games. Geralt is a Witcher: Guardian of the innocent, protector of those in need, a defender in dark times against some of the most frightening creatures of myth and legend. His task now is to protect Ciri. A child of prophecy, she will have the power to change the world for good or for ill.

Content warning + Lots of moving pieces
Revisado: 11-21-20
First, for those who want content warnings: This book includes sexual violence in the narration experienced by a perspective character. It's towards the end of the book.
Second, this book had a lot of moving pieces to the plot that I found it difficult to follow. Part of that may be from the fact that Audible gave me "Sword of Destiny" as Book 1 and "Time of Contempt" for Book 2, meaning that I missed "Last Wish" and "Blood of Elves". I plan to go back to read those. Another aspect of being slightly thrown off by the plot was actually a writing choice that likely would have been more obvious in print rather than in audiobook: the author cuts Dandelion's recounting of events with short scenes of those events (like flashbacks, but from the omniscient narrator, not Dandelion's memories). This is actually a cool way of presenting that information to the reader but there's no cue for the listener for when it switches between the present and the past, whereas I suspect that there would be paragraph breaks in the print version.
Make sure you listen to the Witcher Saga in the correct order.

Historia
Geralt the Witcher battles monsters, demons and prejudices alike in Sword of Destiny, the second collection of adventures in Andrzej Sapkowski’s groundbreaking epic fantasy series that inspired the Netflix show and the hit video games. Geralt is a Witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless hunter. Yet he is no ordinary killer: His targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent.

Casual misogyny mars otherwise good story
Revisado: 11-09-20
The writing and world building are excellent, but the casual misogyny and flat characterization of the female characters leave much to be desired. Unfortunately, this is typical of 1980s fantasy written by men. The Netflix show tries to make up for some of this.
The narrator/reader is great. I enjoyed listening to it and plan on reading the next books. Just know what you're getting into.

Inconsistently good
Revisado: 02-05-20
The novel itself is variable in its quality of writing (not as consistently good as the first two books in the series, publication order), but the reader's performance is as excellent as it has been so far in the series. Hornblower's adventurous exploits are exciting; his other activities less so.

Historia
The sorcerer Alder fears sleep. The dead are pulling him to them at night. Through him they may free themselves and invade Earthsea. Alder seeks advice from Ged, once Archmage. Ged tells him to go to Tenar, Tehanu, and the young king at Havnor. They are joined by amber-eyed Irian, a fierce dragon able to assume the shape of a woman. The threat can be confronted only in the Immanent Grove on Roke, the holiest place in the world, and there the king, hero, sage, wizard, and dragon make a last stand.

Not the best reader of the series, but the novel is good. I listened to it because I wanted to finish the series.

Historia
Naomi Novik’s beloved series returns, with Capt. Will Laurence and his fighting dragon Temeraire once again taking to the air against the broadsides of Napoleon’s forces and the friendly—and sometimes not-so-friendly—fire of British soldiers and politicians who continue to suspect them of divided loyalties, if not outright treason.

Same reader, different voices.
Revisado: 03-11-17
Although the reader is the same as the previous books, he changed the voices for some of the main characters, which was jarring until I got used to it.
