Historia
The world has changed around 79-year-old librarian Millicent Carmichael, a.k.a. Missy. Though quick to admit that she often found her roles as a housewife and mother less than satisfying, Missy once led a bustling life driven by two children, an accomplished and celebrated husband, and a Classics degree from Cambridge. Now, her husband is gone, her daughter is estranged after a shattering argument, and her son has moved to his wife's native Australia, taking Missy's beloved only grandchild half-a-world away.

Too much
Revisado: 09-15-24
This is a book of hat us about 500 pages too long and about 10 characters too many. The story was confusing and tedious because it was long winded. it was also somewhat of a fairytale with perfect endings and that's not my cup of tea. The narration was done well but the writing went on and on.

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Revisado: 07-31-24
the performance was well done. The story was devastating. Only listen if you enjoy reading about the effects of drug use on a person and those around them. This is the subject of all the action that takes place. I did not enjoy this story

Historia
Israel is a tiny state, and yet it has captured the world's attention, aroused its imagination, and, lately, been the object of its opprobrium. Why does such a small country speak to so many global concerns? More pressingly: Why does Israel make the decisions it does? And what lies in its future? We cannot answer these questions until we understand Israel's people and the questions and conflicts, the hopes and desires, that have animated their conversations and actions.

Well written. painful narration
Revisado: 10-23-20
Daniel Gordis wrote a consice history of the state of Israel as promised. He is strong writer. Fred Sanders was a painful narrator to listen to. He did not do his homework on pronuncition and only 50% of his hebrew words were correctly articulated. that made it hard to listen to. Additionally his delivery was more suited to a gentle fiction tale than to a nonfiction book.

Historia
On October 27, 2018, 11 Jews were gunned down as they prayed at their synagogue in Pittsburgh. It was the deadliest attack on Jews in American history. For most Americans, the massacre at Tree of Life, the synagogue where Bari Weiss became a bat mitzvah, came as a total shock. But anti-Semitism is the oldest hatred, commonplace across the Middle East and on the rise for years in Europe. So that terrible morning in Pittsburgh raised a question Americans can no longer avoid: Could it happen here? This audiobook is Weiss' answer.

Historia
The award-winning author of The Eichmann Trial and Denial: Holocaust History on Trial gives us a penetrating and provocative analysis of the hate that will not die, focusing on its current, virulent incarnations on both the political right and left: from white supremacist demonstrators in Charlottesville, Virginia, to mainstream enablers of antisemitism such as Donald Trump and Jeremy Corbyn, to a gay pride march in Chicago that expelled a group of women for carrying a Star of David banner.

Historia
The Grammarians are Laurel and Daphne Wolfe, identical, inseparable redheaded twins who share an obsession with words. They speak a secret "twin" tongue of their own as toddlers; as adults making their way in 1980s Manhattan, their verbal infatuation continues, but this love, which has always bound them together, begins instead to push them apart. Their fraying twinship finally shreds completely when the sisters go to war, absurdly but passionately, over custody of their most prized family heirloom: Merriam Webster’s New International Dictionary, Second Edition.

Not well executed
Revisado: 10-23-19
I had high hopes for this novel. I loved the premise and I am a "collector of words" as is one of the main characters. The problem was that I didn't like any of the characters until nearly the end of the book. No character stole my heart or showed much charm. If I can't identify with a protagonist, I can't enjoy the novel. The ending was also quite disappointing, it merely narrated the future - all tell, no show.
