Too many characters in this one

I’ve enjoyed the first two books in this series, but this one was really hard to follow. There was way too many characters to keep track off in this book and I kept wishing I had the actual book to refer back too. Also, it was really confusing because one of the characters was named Nicki and another was Mickey, so it sounds the same with the narration which also made it hard to follow.

I purchased this book based on a booktok recommendation. First, the narrator is horrible. it's hard to even differentiate between the characters. It's so monotone and it's the first book I had to put on 1.5 speed because it's so slow. Second, I kept thinking the story was going to pick up but by chapter 7, it still felt like a bunch a backstory with no real plot or direction or even suspense to hint at what might happen. So disappointing especially because it was so hyped up on ticktock. Couldn't make it through and returned it.
