Historia
Riley Kennedy’s emails keep getting crossed with her male colleague, Kennedy Riley. The infuriating man forwards them along with his annoying commentary and unsolicited advice. At least she never has to see him in person, since they work in different locations…until they come face to face at the office holiday party.

Nope
Revisado: 12-06-19
This premise sounds cute, but it gets creepy pretty quick. Even if you are willing to overlook just how quickly any company would stomp on someone reading their co-workers emails, much less commenting; it goes way too far as soon as he starts giving unsolicited and unwelcome comments on her appearance. That's what we call workplace sexual harassment. It is not cute. Add to that, that the female character is an immature and rude ditz and this one lost me within the first 20 minutes.
The narrator did her best, and there is nothing bad to say about her performance. This story is just not salvageable.

Historia
The Nightrunners are back in this gripping novel full of Lynn Flewelling’s trademark action, intrigue, and richly imagined characters. More than the dissolute noblemen they appear to be, Alec and Seregil are skillful spies, dedicated to serving queen and country. But when they stumble across evidence of a plot pitting Queen Phoria against Princess Klia, the two Nightrunners will find their loyalties torn as never before.

Terrible narrator choice
Revisado: 06-14-19
While the story was compelling enough to keep me going, the awful narration made it a difficult slog. The Night Runner series has been a favorite of mine for years, but this was the first time I tried it on audio, and I'm glad. The narrator's lack of character range, whining intonation and tendency to go monotone when trying to build dramatic moments would have put me off this series for sure if I hadn't read it in print first.

Historia
Disillusioned P.I. Davy McCloud has an ironclad rule: never follow blind impulse when it comes to women. But he breaks it the instant gorgeous Margo Vetter shows up to teach at the gym next door. The sexual hunger - and the instinctual protectiveness - that she awakens is much too strong to resist.

Narrator ruined this one for me
Revisado: 03-08-19
I have read this book in print, and I enjoyed it, however I could not finish the audio version. The male narrator could not do female voices without them sounding breathy and weak and his overall pacing was way too slow and clumsy for the story and characters. It ruined the story for me, as I was either frustrated by his voices or bored by his pacing. I didn't get past the first half of the book before I gave up.

Historia
Ever since being stuck with the job of pythia, the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up to the lifetime's worth of training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the fabled pythian court. Catch up to the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It's been a trial by fire that has left her more than a little burned. But now she realizes that all that was just the warm up for the real race.

would have been 5 stars with a better narrator
Revisado: 11-28-17
The narrator of this book nearly ruined it for me. She pauses at odd places, sometimes even changing the meaning of sentences by seeming to add a comma where there shouldnt be one. The emotions she puts in the characters voices are also often totally out of character, coming off too angry or too sweet by turns. The book was bearable to listen to because I love the Cassie series, and the characters already have strong voices in my head that were able to override the poor narration choices.

Historia
For eons, conquering dungeons has been the most efficient way to become a strong adventurer. Although not everything is as straightforward as it seems. Several questions have always plagued the minds of those who enter these mythical places of power: why are there so many monsters? Where do the amazing weaponry and heavy gold coins come from? Why does the very air fill with life-giving energies? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions, for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Heart.

So many adverbs...but a good story
Revisado: 09-21-17
This novel perspective and decent world building make this an enjoyable book. Really the only thing that took away from the pleasure of listening was the excessive use of adverbs as dialog tags. Nearly every word in the book was said glibly, excitedly, sadly, disappointedly and so on. With a little more polish on the writing and a good editor this could have gone from an ok book to a really good one. It is a credit to the author's raw talent at storytelling that I was willing to overlook the often grating dialog and really enjoy the book for what it is.

Terrible male narrator
Revisado: 03-08-17
I love Ms. Briggs books, but between the terrible narrator reading the chapters from Adam's point of view and the strange non-linear format, I really struggled to connect to this story. It felt like everyone was just slightly out of character, just enough to be distracting and diminish my immersion into the story.

In this dark and gritty collection - featuring short stories from Jim Butcher, Seanan McGuire, Kevin J. Anderson, and Rob Thurman - nothing is as simple as black and white, light and dark, good and evil.... Unfortunately, that's exactly what makes it so easy to cross the line.

Historia
House cats rule back alleys, deserted Antarctic islands, and our bedrooms. Clearly they own the Internet, where a viral cat video can easily be viewed upward of 10 million times. But how did cats accomplish global domination? Unlike dogs, they offer humans no practical benefit. The truth is they are sadly incompetent rat catchers and pose a threat to many ecosystems. Yet we love them still.

Ignores any positive data about cats.
Revisado: 10-20-16
I kept waiting for the author to contrast all the negative data about cats effect on the environment, and potentially on health, with some inkling of positive information on our relationship with them, and the bonds we are able to form. Instead, this read like a cat haters manifesto, highlighting the bad and never touching on the good. At times it even felt like she was advocating whole scale cat slaughter. After all, cats are terrible for the environment, and for our physical and mental health, and according to this book, apparently don't like or bond with us in any way at all. Some interesting science, but overall a shortsighted and shallow interpretation of cats relationship with humans in the modern world.

Police initially suspect a murder-suicide, but when Dr. Kate proves the famous best-in-show champion is missing, a darker reality intrudes.

A basic plot with an unobjectionable, but ultimately flavorless and uninteresting cast of characters. The parrot was the best character and he only had about ten pages in the story. I finished the book, but I will not continue the series.

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather's magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

too much emotional filler
Revisado: 02-04-16
Unfortunately, this is one of the weaker entries in the usually wonderful In Death series. The story was bogged down with unrealistic and out of character emotional soliloqies. The police procedure was even more of a stretch than usual, with very little attempt to explain the reason Eve, a homicide lieutenent, would even be allowed to take the case of a missing person.
On the plus side, the villains were especially insidious and it was still fun to watch Eve and company chase them down. Even with the overdone emotional outbursts and terribly unrealistic police tactics.
Overall, if you are not invested in following every step of Eve and Roarke's story, it's ok to skip this one .
