Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Surprisingly wonderful!
Revisado: 02-06-23
This is not my typical genre at all. I’m so far from fantasy. I kept hearing the raves about this book so I decided to give it a try. What an incredible book about starting over, finding your own “family” and a cozy, wonderful coffee shop in fantasy medieval days I’m guessing. I got goosebumps and cried at the end! What a warm escape!

Don’t get the hype
Revisado: 10-11-22
The story itself was pretty good up until the ending. It was like she didn’t know how to end it and didn’t know how. It wasn’t shocking to me at all. It was a big let down. I heard it compared to Gone Girl. Not even close. There were a lot of explicit sex scenes with very crude language and descriptions. I’m a pretty chill person and am a big cusser and it even made me cringe.

As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Such a great story with such lovable characters. It’s not hokey and gushy like I expected. Very Practical Magic vibes. The narrator was great. I could listen to her Mika voice all day.

Sweet-hearted, easy listen
Revisado: 07-11-21
This isn't a book that I'd typically pick up and read but my mom loved it so much so I gave it a chance. This is a sweet story about grief, recovery and finding support in the world. It's not sad. I thought it would be overly depressing. It's about how family doesn't have to be blood and that no matter what happens, there can be a silver lining. The three characters are lovable and you want them to find happiness. It took me a bit to get into it. It's probably because it's not my typical genre and the topic of bee keeping is unknown to me. The bee keeping story line is just the thing that connects the characters together. It's not hyper focused on it.
I did find that it ended really fast. It seemed like the minute it picked up, it ended. It reminded me of Where the Crawdads Sing and how fast it wrapped up (again another Mom pick that I didn't totally love). However, the end made me smile and left me uplifted.

So much more than expected!
Revisado: 05-10-21
Wow! Totally not what I expected. I read this book because of how much I loved Daisy Jones. What a great book, surprising love story, story of survival (in more ways than one) and a life that from appearances sake seemed glamorous and perfect but was far from it. It ripped my heart out in so many places. It made me look at life and realize that at the end of it, how one can be ready to leave it. I loved the fact that it talked so much about family and that family doesn't have to be the traditional sense of family. Family are those you love more than anything and are put in your life for a reason. Although all of these are great aspects of this story, the overarching theme is the right to be who you are without hiding or pretending and live a happy life. I don't want to share anymore. Just read it.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

A must if you grew up in 70s/80s
Revisado: 03-15-21
This is a must for anyone who grew up in the 70s and 80s. It over exceeded my expectations! It was so raw and emotional and made you feel as if you were right there with them. Hard to believe they are real. Very strong similarities to Stevie Nicks.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

That’s it???
Revisado: 07-27-18
I kept waiting for a big twist but it never came. Turns out it happened and I never realized it. This could have been a good story but there were just so many parts that were expanded on or just fell short. Turns out it was just a story about a woman with no self respect or backbone who made a bad choice in a husband and had a bad marriage. I tried to like it but couldn’t.
I could not deal with the narrators attempt to do a man’s voice.

Revisado: 05-18-18
Loved this book. I didn’t want it to end. Rill was such a refreshing character with so much passion and love for her family. This book is fiction but based on historic events. It’s amazing what a little twist of fate can do to these lives. Horribly sad at times and full of love and hope at others.

Terrible!
Revisado: 01-17-17
This was a horribly depressing book but not just that. I have read other depressing books that I have loved - The Nightingale being one. This was a horrible story where the main character made mistake after mistake and never learned. She was hard to like and took being naive to a whole other level. I would have never finished this if it wasn't my book club book.
The narrator was almost unbearable. She read with a breathy dramatic cadence the entire book.
