Historia
Known to millions as the creator of Lord Peter Wimsey and the best-selling author of a dozen detective novels, Dorothy Leigh Sayers was in reality a complex woman - moved, she said, by “a careless rage for life.” It is this complex Sayers, brilliant student, controversial apologist, witty, bawdy, intolerant of fools - he woman “terrified of emotion” - who is revealed in this new biography.

Rings true…
Revisado: 02-27-19
This is a wonderful book about a fascinating woman. As good as the book is, it is worth purchasing for its production. Otherwise spotless, at the 5:16 mark of the fourth chapter, an old rotary dial telephone rings once in the background. Just a little toast to human frailty in an age of perfection. Which is suggestive of Ms. Sayer' life, actually.

This book was a balm—refreshing and restorative.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The author has crafted a biblical framework from Genesis 1 and illustrated its principles with a balance of biblical narratives and his own stories. His passion for life, love, and the Lord is evident. His words are filled with wonder; his interpretations are thoughtful and beautifully grounded in the Hebrew text; his applications are rich. The book was improved by the author's own performance in which he breathed life into his own words with tenderness and intention. This book is written and read from the humble and grateful heart of a kind pastor.

Historia
When baseball fans voted on the top twenty-five players of the twentieth century in 1999, Stan Musial didn’t make the cut. This glaring omission—later rectified by a panel of experts—raised an important question: How could a first-ballot Hall of Famer, widely considered one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, still rank as the most underrated athlete of all time?

Argh.
Revisado: 05-22-17
This book, between the author and the narrator, is an ordeal to finish. I wanted to know about Stan Musial as a ball player. This book reads like a 12 hour People magazine article. It's about a celebrity, not about baseball. The narrator adds a sing-song reading to the book, which makes it seem as if it's going to go on for ever. I am so disappointed. If Stan Musial was alive, he wouldn't say to the author, "What do you say? What do you say? What do you say?" He'd say, "Enough. Enough. Enough!"

Historia
In A Nice Little Place on the North Side, leading columnist George Will returns to baseball with a deeply personal look at his hapless Chicago Cubs and their often beatified home, Wrigley Field, as it enters its second century. Baseball, Will argues, is full of metaphors for life, religion, and happiness, and Wrigley is considered one of its sacred spaces. But what is its true, hyperbole-free history?

I really wanted to like this book. I really want to like George will. But both come across as condescending. And the point of the book, if there is one, is contradictory. He argues against sentimentality. And then he waxes sentimental. He puts down the writing of others. And then he quotes them. He argues against using baseball as a metaphor for religion or spirituality. And then he argues that it is transcendent. He is an intelligent man for all that can be seen. And he seems to want something more from life. But his reason will not allow him to see it

Inconceivable!
Revisado: 08-22-16
Where does As You Wish rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is easily the most entertaining audio book I have ever listened to.
What did you like best about this story?
Cary Elwes, through his writing and performance, does a lovely job conveying the creativity and spirit of the movie's production. Cary and the entire contributing cast speak with such gratitude about their experience. This book gives you an all-new appreciation for the movie and a sense of love and respect for the performers.
Which scene was your favorite?
Among the many tales, I particularly loved the heartwarming stories of Andre the Giant, of Wallace Shawn and the Battle of Wits, and Cary's mimicking of Rob Reiner.
Any additional comments?
This book is memorable, sweet, and funny. With most of the cast making multiple appearances, it’s like sitting in a room with them and hearing of their experiences in their own voice. I will return often to this book.
