Historia
Lately, Kate has a lot on her dessert plate. She's launching a cookie-of-the-day challenge in the heart of Coral Cay, providing sweet treats for the reception of the town's handsome new veterinarian - not to mention dealing with tourists in town for a pirate festival and the surprise arrival of her former fiance, Evan, who seems determined to win her back. And if that's not enough, a skeleton has been found - in the backyard behind her best friend Maxi's floral shop. Kate knows Maxi could never hurt a fly.

Historia
As the first anniversary of the formation of the Kings Lake murder squad approaches, there is a problem—they've run out of murders. As a result, they are given the task of reviewing unsolved cold cases. One of these comes back to life in unexpected ways as the team try to discover the identity of the young woman whose body was found in the Norfolk countryside two decades ago. And even if they can give her a name, how can they possibly find her killer after so many years?

Historia
In the days and months after Pearl Harbor, the lives of Japanese Americans across the continent and Hawaii were changed forever. In this unforgettable chronicle of war-time America and the battlefields of Europe, Daniel James Brown portrays the journey of Rudy Tokiwa, Fred Shiosaki, and Kats Miho, who volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and were deployed to France, Germany, and Italy, where they were asked to do the near impossible. Brown also tells the story of these soldiers' parents, immigrants who were forced to submit to life in concentration camps on U.S. soil.

Could have been better
Revisado: 01-21-24
I typically don’t go in for historical novels, but I enjoyed The Boys in the Boat so much that I sought out another work by this author. With great conviction, I have concluded that the person selected to do the oration of a book has a great deal to do with its success or failure audibly. The manner in which Louis Ozawa haltingly reads detracts from the story in a significant way. While I appreciate the desire to have someone who is familiar with the pronunciation of the Japanese names as the orator, the poor phrasing in his reading style had me reiterating segments in my own voice again and again to gain the impact the author intended. This dis-fluent oratory reminded me of the groans of my 8th grade students whenever an awkward reader was next up as we read around the room. Additionally, the author’s frequent use of asides to add details about his characters or situations caused the story to become disjointed, and the frequent dangling/misplaced modifiers showed this listener the editors had not done their jobs to smooth the delivery of the story before it was published.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

The historical references really give you a window on the world and its impact on the lives of the boys (& their coaches) in the boat!

Revisado: 09-15-23
This series of mysteries would be more entertaining if:
• the author didn’t repeat her background information about the various characters by using virtually identical descriptions in every.single.book!
• she spent more time detailing the circumstances around the actual mystery rather than revisiting exhausted character exhausted character descriptions from her previous books in the same series.

Poor oration hurt the story
Revisado: 07-24-21
The inflection was halting and awkward. There were quite a few mispronunciations such as corPUS for the word corpse. The reader’s lack of fluency and poor skills made it undesirable to listen to the next story even though it was free.
