Incredibly Well Done

These diaries, of the brilliant actor & director, Alan Rickman, allow us a rare glimpse into the daily life of a working actor. Having worked in both theatre & film, having done everything from Shakespearean classics to playing memorable villains, and much more, it was eye opening. While I had always been drawn to his work, and had the good fortune to see him in a theatre production of Private Lives, this upped my respect for him even more. This man was dedicated to his craft and we, the audience, was the beneficiary. I, for one, am deeply grateful.

Disappointing

The title grabs you. The writing and reasoning jumps around and makes the stories or theories hard to follow. This was the concensus from a portion of our book club. There were some fascinating facts, but they could have been delivered more directly, in a less playful way, and the book might have been more satisfying.

Thorough & Detailed

This biography about Agatha Christie delves deeply into every aspect and phase of her stories life. Born to a family of means in the Edwardian era, becoming a writer, a war time volunteer, a mother and wife to two husbands, Agatha Christie truly lived. She redefined work for women and saw tremendous changes in society in her lifetime. She was a success all along, even when meeting some difficult life challenges and feeling unprepared. You, as the reader, come way with nothing but respect for this fascinating woman who lived life to the fullest and was WAY ahead of her time. Bravo Lucy Worsley for putting the extensive research needed into this book. Clearly, it was a labor of love.

Brilliant Short Stories

This is proof once again that Lily King is a genius of a writer! I preferred each offering as a stand alone work. That allows you to absorb the intricacy of the characters King draws. The readers on Audible are fantastic. Thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable.

Deep, Deep, Deep…Beautiful

This book was recommended to me by an avid reader I respect. She said it moved her deeply and reminded her of the power of excellent fiction. How could I resist? Everything she said was absolutely true. This is a book about love in a myriad of ways. The author uses two women to tell the story. The two settings and two perspectives, alternating allow layers to be revealed, the story to unfold. I listened to this on Audible and the performance is as compelling as the writing.

Absolutely Brilliant

I am a fan of Peter Zeihan. I have read each of his books as they have been released. He has a brilliant mind and a way of looking at things that enhances how I navigate information. He can distill data into digestible bits and I truly appreciate that. I think his books should be taught. In the meantime, I’ll keep reading.

Beautifully written & conceived! Memorable, Thought -Provoking, Sweet & Sad but with Hope & Promise. It was recommended on Audible and I agree that is the ideal format.
This book prompts Thought, the Age-Old Questions and allows Pause to Ponder.

This book has it all!

Damnation Spring pulls you into the lives of loggers in Northern CA in the 70s. It’s written with the clarity of spring water and reading it was utterly refreshing. This is the story of a close-knit, working class community and the ups and downs of logger’s lives when mixed with the unpredictability of Mother Nature, the government & corporate interests. It focuses heavily on marriage, family, loyalty and how far people will go to protect them. Loved it.

Powerful Native American Stories

This book has received rave reviews since it was published. It has been on my reading list for several years. I am so glad I finally got to it. The stories within are genuine, authentic, powerful, moving. There is love, loss, pride, humiliation, just about every emotion you can think of. This should be required reading in the US. It is masterfully written.
